Would you rate Canelo over Mayweather if he wins in November?

    No I wouldn't.

Mayweather is clearly atleast a top 50 fighter of all time. ALL TIME.

He has a win over Pac. Another top 50 fighter of ALL TIME.

Canelo is a strong champion, but the people above Floyd are very, very special guys. And some of them don't actually match up as well H2H as Mayweather does.

And I'm not even a Mayweather fan.

Of course he's not what he is now, but he was favored to beat Mayweather and had all advantages. We talking a Mayweather who wasn't prime anymore. Plus Canelo had 44 fights under his belt. So stop making excuses!

I do not rate either. Both are Ped's cheat that benefited by the State Commission & Vegas boxing covering their asses to ensure they did not lose. Too many dark clouds over both
    to ever be considered great

Floyd NEVER legitimately beat Pac. That debacle should be stricken from the records

I wouldn't rate Canelo over Mayweather if he were to win against Kovalev.

But I must admit, Canelo would have the better single-best-win when we compare their resumes

I do not understand your reasoning. I watched the fight. Mayweather completely shut down Pac's offense. Pac has no answers. Pac was outclassed. As was Canelo when Mayweather fought him.

I was pulling for Pac and Canelo but I saw what I saw. Mayweather was very effectively able to negate the offenses of both Pac and Canelo. Mayweather was just that good of a defensive fighter.

I dont know if Mayweather was the best defensive fighter ever but hes up there for sure. Pernell Whitiker is another guy who was a defensive master. Really really hard to land on guys like that when they are on their game.

Many find that style of fighting boring and favor rockem sockem robot action. Defense is part of the art of boxing though. Credit where credit is due.

I can't rate guys higher than Mayweather who he thoroughly outclassed in the ring.

I watched that fight. The only way Canelo could be Mayweather would be if he was allowed to enter the ring 30 pounds heavier and had a referee who was willing to let Canneli maul and wrestle Mayweather rather than box.

Canelo is a very good boxer with power. Mayweather is one of the best defensive fighters in the history of the sport.

this is an easy answer and kinda unfair Canelo may be the greatest fighter in this decade but Mayweather is 1a or 1b to Pacquiaco as greatest fighter in a generation.

For as much flack as he gets when Mayweather retired he retired wit the most champions beaten in boxing history, after he reached the top level pretty much every single fighter he fought was a current or future champ, guy legit beat the #1 rated fighter or Champ at a minimum of twice in 4/5 divisions and in the 1 division he didn't he ended up beating the Real champ later on anyway

Canelo is a great fighter and depending on what he does in the next 10 years we could revisit this conversation, IF and for me it's a big IF he should win vs Kovalev it would be a big start, the first fighter in the multi belt era to hold Titles in 3 division at the same time would stamp his a seat at the ATG table, how high he goes from there will determine Canelo's final ranking.

people need to accept Mayweather's greatness. from 2006-2015 every single fighter Mayweather fought was some 2/3 combination of being a current champ/ top 3/4 divisional rated/ top 10 P4P rated fighter.
    really break it down
    Judah*(Top 3/4 WW IBF champ), Baldomir(#1 WW WBC Champ), Hoya(Top 3 JMW WBC Champ), Hatton(#1 JWW/Top 10 P4P Lineal JWW Champ), Marquez(#1LW/Top 5 P4P Lineal LW Champ), Mosley(Top 3 WW/P4P), Ortiz(Top 3 WW WBC Champ), Cotto(#1 JMW WBA Champ), Guerrero(Top 4 WW Top 10 P4P), Canelo(#1 JMW WBC Champ), Maidana.2x(Top 4 WW WBA Champ), Pacquiao(Top 3 WW/P4P WBO Champ)

the only argument you can make on that list is Judah who held on to his title by a technicality but was 1 fight removed from being Undisputed WW Champ and Maidana in fight II simply because he lost his titles in fight I, the only fighter in this whole era you can argue as close to quality is Pacquiao and he owns a very easy and clear win over Manny. hell if you go even further from 2001-2015 he's only fought 3 guys in TOTAL who had never won a title in their career.

The book on Canelo is still being written. A convincing win over Kov is going to move him up several spaces on the list but he’s got a long way to go to reach Floyd. Of course another questionable win on the cards does nothing for him, probably moves him down on my list (good for him I don’t have an official list or a real list at all).

Honestly, I’m not looking for historically significant fights these days. Just entertaining ones. Those are pretty rare these days but this could be a good one. Kov is going to need a KO to win this one I suspect. Not sure he has that ability anymore.

I can't stand Mayweather but he is a top 30 ATG and arguably the best ever defensive boxer. Ginger is a fine boxer and made of granite but he's just not at that level.

Kovalev is cashing out... Big Fat $$$ to fight Mexico's Golden Child and Golden Boy's Cash Cow... Not that Kovalev wont try to KO Canelo but Kovalev doesn't have the best whiskers after all these fights he's had, he's war torn and hurt by everything now, I see Cinnamon Boy Canelo or Ginger Snaps to KTFO Kovalev by the 8th round, maybe even sooner... Kovalev will laugh all the way to the bank, win or lose! Ya gotta think about a retirement fund when you're a fighter, ya don't want to end up mopping floors for a living like Leon Spinks in your golden years!

What happened 24 hours before the May/Pac fight ??
May was caught in his own home receiving an illegal excessive 750 ml of saline. Which incidently broke the NSAC's own rules on saline drip. We all know what excessive saline drip masks dont we ?? All the NSAC did was issue a statement saying " Mr Mayweather did nothing wrong we will not be investigating" ROFL then 3 weeks after the fight issued a retroactive TUE to Mayweather covering the saline ROFL
Meanwhile Pac was refused a previously agreed upon legal Toradol shot for his torn rotator cuff injury ecause he " Hadnt ticked the right box on the form " ROFL
Does that sound like a fair fight to you ???? Should be stricken from the records

Yes. It sounds fair. Its boxing. Not a pillow fight. Manny got whipped. They could fight another twenty rounds and Manny still wouldn't score a telling blow. He was outclassed. Not overpowered.
