Which light heavy has the best bet of beating a Liston or Foreman

    I wouldn't pick any to beat either of them when they were prime ,but Harold has about as good a chance as any imo.

    Shoot forgot about Tunney...I suppose if anyone could have mapped out a way of beating them he would have done it.

    Byrd has a total of 3 fights at or near light heavy ,his first 2 pro fights, and one when he was 37, in his 2nd to last fight in which he was stopped by a journeyman.
    Maybe that's why nobody has mentioned him but you?

    Foreman and Liston were not the same .. I see more than a few having a shot against Foreman but very few w Liston ..Spinks, Conn, Tunney .. that's about it ..

    Actually you may be right. I was watching a video on YouTube on his fight with Machen. Somebody commented (I believe they worked close with him) that even there he was a little past it!

    Throwing this in there for the sake of whatever - Evander started as a LHW; can we choose the experience level, or the overall skill/character of the fighter? LHW Evander, with the skill of the HW, would be a formidable opponent if he fought intelligently.

    Perhaps Tunney. Foreman could be outboxed and tended to gas, so a very good light heavyweight with swift feet and a good chin could realistically upset him.

    Liston would be a tougher matchup. His skills were better, he didn't tire like Foreman did and his reach and jab were just too much.

    I know he is not popular on this forum but Michael Moorer did beat Evander Holyfield, Axel Schultz, Frans Botha, Vassily Jirov, Bert Cooper and was beating old George Foreman right before he got caught. I like prime Liston to beat Moorer but it would not surprise me if Moorer won.

    I don't count Holyfield as a real light heavyweight. At least as a pro. Also I don't think a 2 fight EH beats prime Foreman or Liston.

    Moorer would stand too still and try to outpunch Liston. Though Moorer could use movement, I don't think it'd be enough and see a replica of Liston/Williams. If he fought a 25 year old Foreman, that's a replica of Foreman/Norton.
