Derevyanchenko is down, cuffing left hook by Culcay, landed with mostly inner forearm against Derevyanchenko's right temple. Not ruled a knockdown - IMO correctly. Derevyanchenko is trading with Culcay, who is attempting to follow up on that early bowl-over by turning the tables on Derevyanchenko and applying heavy pressure. Derevyanchenko's short straight combos are scoring more effectively than Culcay's hyperactive flurrying sorties and tidal wave rights up top that carry him off balance and into frequent chest to chest collisions. Derevyanchenko starts to re-assume ring generalship as things settle down, working the left jab at mid-range. Culcay starts jumping in from unpredictable angles, not landing anything but forcing resets and disrupting Derevyanchenko's rhythm, basically a clinch every two seconds.

Villegas gave Culcay the 11th ...and 10th ( ..:..) but still has Derevyanchenko up by a point heading into the last frame.

Derevyanchenko is all over Culcay with power-jabs and big overhand rights, swarming him and shoving free of his clinches. If the tables were turned at all in the eleventh, at least in terms of aggression, they've spun around 360° now. Derevyanchenko is clanging wide right hands around the guard and into Culcay's left ear. Culcay is loading up on single power shots on the backfoot, ducking against the ropes as Derevyanchenko unloads on him with straight combos, landing a very high clip as Culcay becomes too fatigued to hold up his guard. Leaping right by Culcay, another combo from Derevyanchenko.

Not that I saw, no.

Hold on, let me rewind.

Again - this was viewed without commentary (or audio, period), so if there was a moment where Derevyanchenko happened to lose his balance while Culcay was flurrying and the commentators had a moment of hysterical apophenia making a mountain of a mole hill to influence some viewers - I would've been immune.

 

Just watched round 10 carefully, with the audio this time, and no, there is no moment where an official could have ruled a knockdown. If you mean Culcay landing a right hand blip on his third eye chakra with like 15 seconds left, Derevyanchenko wasn't even near the ropes during Culcay's follow-up barrage, let alone held up by them (he did backpedal into them and then ricochet off them back into Culcay - but um, that in no way shape or form has ever been considered something that warrants a ten-count). Derevyanchenko might have been slightly off-balance for a second, most of his weight shifted onto his heels before he course-corrected and briefly tried to clinch but gave up and started fighting back instead. He wasn't that hurt at all, really, just became disheveled for all of like three seconds (punch landed with 17 left on the round clock; by the 14 seconds remaining mark he was absolutely fine and was effectively weaving & blocking punches from Culcay and firing his own in a compact & controlled manner, with no signs of lingering cobwebs).

 

Also wtf is with the play by play guy for PBC having a stroke when Culcay landed that right hand?

@CST80 is that why you think GGG by stoppage is a certainty? Just that one shot/reaction? Because having scrutinized it, that was really nothing. If you would've been thinking GGG on points otherwise, I wouldn't read too much into that moment to be make or break the other way.

 

Sticking with GGG wide decision.

A late stoppage wouldn't be a huge shock, though, GGG has worn down & stopped good technicians - and guys with solid chins - in the past.


...and yeah, Golden Jack is alright. He was kind of hyped early on, and I don't think he quite lived up to his world class promises, but he's a decent "nearly man" and can give anyone the right sort of litmus test.

 

I'm bummed for Golovkin that he won't get the opportunity for his "JMM vs. Pac IV" moment, but I am thrilled about Canelo taking on Kovalev instead.
