I think that's an exaggeration on his part, as it probably would be an "up to" type contract if everything falls into place in a best case scenario. Massive amount of new subscriptions, ticket sales, a trilogy with Wilder and maybe another big name, winning everything... etc.. etc...
Well I was lead to believe by the umpteen amount of news articles out there, including ESPN themselves, that he had signed an £80 million, 5-fight contract deal with Top Rank, but fair enough if you know otherwise. I was starting to think that there was a serious gap on the balance sheet here, if he is making 8 million instead, then there is hope that ESPN might break even one day.
I guess Fury just isn't a draw in the states. Personally, I don't find him to be a very exciting fighter and I guess I'm not the only one who feels that way. I guess all his blather doesn't result in ticket sales.
Has it? I saw an article on the scene that said over 6,000 had been sold. I'm always very sceptical of Matchroom and their sold out claims. More so when it comes to the UK, mind
You are definitely not the only person to think Fury is a boring fighter. There are millions who believe the same think out there. Including aliens who receive TV signals from our planet.
Yeah it has because I've been watching ticketmaster, and the Wintrust arena very closely. And it has been reported on US boxing media sites that are not affiliated with Matchroom, but don't worry I'll be there live and I can just record the stadium attendance on the day.
I hadn't seen any reports confirming it, not even from Matchroom. Though I haven't specifically been looking out for them. Just had a quick google and I couldn't see anything confirming it at all. Not that it matters in any way really. I'm jealous you'll be seeing Usyk live. I got to see Loma last month, I'm hoping Papa Usyk comes back to the UK soon.
I just knew this fight had to be seen live, especially at the Wintrust arena, only 10,000 capacity, no seat is a bad seat. We'll all be very close to the action, even better than the o2. It's just a shame that the rest of the undercard is somewhat underwhelming. If all goes well for Usyk on Oct. 12 I suspect he'll be back for many bouts in the UK. Of course I'll be routing for the other guy, in spirit not aloud given the large Ukranian presence over there in Chicago lol In fact I may be one of the handful of Spong supporters there
Matchroom's ticket sales strategy is pretty well-defined. When tickets go on open sale, most are immediately 'sold' to Stub Hub, who as we know, then sell them on to genuine customers at a big mark-up. This is how they achieve the '60,000 tickets sold in the first hour' PR stunt used for Joshua fights in the past. Matchroom's deal with Stub Hub is grubby to say the least. Not sure if this applies to the US though...
Yeah it's not great. Bivol fight might have some entertainment value to it but again I guess it's just nice to say you've seen him fight. I hope Spong really goes for it. Either to allow Usyk to put on a masterclass or to make a real fight out of it.
What causes poor viewer rating? Putting a name fighter in huge mismatch after another. The US casual aren't loyal fan base to any boxers.
Too right. I think it may not be allowed over there though. I haven't seen them release any attendance figures for their US fights though. I think only certain states have to declare it or something like that
I doubt this applies to US, because I couldn't find tickets anywhere else at all. Stub hub didn't provide tickets for this event.
Yeah for me this was my big chance to see Spong fight live, as he is a big inspiration to me. Besides, win or lose, Spong will come to fight, he is smart and he knows how significant this fight is. He will do whatever it takes to win. So may the best man win on the night. It's Usyk's big debut, so I know the whole world will be watching, it's a significant event to attend Hopefully the Bivol fight provides a KO or something lol
