Jeffries at his best would KO Spinks as soon as he connects. I would say within 12 rounds but could occur at any point in the fight.
I can not reconcile the existing footage of Jeffries with any chance of lasting a round or two with Mike Spinks. That would be dishonest of me. That low left is just begging for a Spinks Jinx. And that plodding footwork does not inspire any elusiveness in that regard either.
Folks, this is what happens when, as a full grown adult, you still believe the fairy tales from days of yore. I suppose that Jeffries never connected against Sharkey for 45 rounds or Corbett for 21 rounds.... Or that these were both better defensive fighters than Mike Spinks.
Thank you! I feel exactly the same when I watch footage of JJ. Hands down, One punch at a time, terrible footwork. Spinks would have a field day.
Primarily because they didn't have rankings in Jeffries' day. Spinks would stomp a mudhole in the collective "elite" of that heavyweight scene. Seriously, go back and look how horrible he appears on film against a common wharfbrawler. This content is protected Honestly, I would take almost any lightheavy champ since the 60's to beat Jeffries... badly.
It took him11 rds to stop167lbs 37 years old coming out of retirement Fitzsimmons. It took him23 rds to stop 33 years old coming out of retirement Corbett. He never managed it in 45 rds with183lbs Sharkey nor in 20 rnds with super middleweight Choynski. Why would he stop Spinks quicker? Where is the evidence of this Tysonesque punch?
Third raters John Finnegan ,and Jack Munroe got title shots in Jeffries reign, three of his other defences were over men he had already beaten or drawn with, 2 of whom came out of retirement .Where is the evidence his era was a deep one for competition?
