Spence beat Porter clearly. Porter is tough and took the punishment meted out to him and came back but Spence refused to take a backward step showing he has a lot of dog in him as well but better skills than Porter. Spence will beat Thurman any day of the week but not surprisingly Thurman is injured again. He will remain injured rather than fight Spence.
Indeed! A year ago I thought old Pac should stay far and far away from Spence, thought he would wipe the floor with him. Now I still slightly favor Spence, but really would like to see that fight. 60/40 Spence.
Refused to take a backward step? He was on the back foot for the majority of the fight! In Porter's whole career to date, ONLY Brook has been able to neutralise Porter's pressure. Otherwise, pressure king Porter always prevails. Spence may beat Thurman, he might beat Pacquiao, he could possibly maybe beat Crawford (Unlikely in my eyes)..but he won't beat his own body. His body will punish him for being a weight bully, and eventually he'll move to 154 where he will be well and truly punished for his sins. At 154, he won't be able to use his power, he won't be able to use his weight..he'll be left helpless with no tools available to him.
Overrated because he took on a serious challenge and struggled?. You guys seem to be programmed to only appreciate fighters that KO hopeless bums.
Spence is going to clear out Welterweight then move up and beat Canelo. He has many dimensions to his game. He beat Kell Brook, Shawn Porter and Mikey Garcia in different ways. His fundamental skill sets is outstanding. Porter tried to impose his will but Spence won’t have it and fought him in the pocket coming forward. People get confused because if you have watched a lot of Spence he is quite aggression the way he does his business. He beat Shawn at his own game and put him down in the Championship rounds. Shawn’s conditioning was outstanding but remember Brook, Thurman and Garcia were not able to put him down. What I particularly liked is when Shawn was rough and dirty as usual Spence was not having it made no complaints and give it back with interest.
Beat Canelo? Dream on...Spence is a small 154, Canelo is a solid 160 and they are both equal in the skills department. Size wins out if everything else is equal..get real.
I saw Porter have a great night and I saw Spence making the fight harder for himself than he had to by fighting in Porters style. I think Spence could have used his reach advantage more but chose not to. I still think Spence is at or near the top.
The overrated narrative after a big name fails to sparkle in a big fight is as understandable as it is predictable. Having said that, maybe he is based on last night. But he also ticked a box too. He was taken to the trenches by Porter, and wasn't found wanting. Many fighters have folded under that kind of pressure, Spence didn't...
When someone swarms so effectively and for 12 rounds as Porter did, it's really hard not to fight their fight. You have to go to war. Maybe Spence could have controlled the distance a little better but not sure Porter allowed him to...
Very over rated at 147 fighting smaller opponents and winning like meh If he goes 154 he will end up kissing the canvas
I think porter bullied him in there and even with knockdown was very fortunate to get the rresult . Problem is Spence is better suited for the media and tv stations so for porter to win it had to be a total one sided fight .
I've been saying it from day, first time Spence in a real fight he got touched up quite bad, I mean Spence got the W but Porter beat his as# up last night.. Spence couldn't control the range or tempo of the fight and got caught all night.. Nothing special like I've always said.. Thurman PAC or Crawford can beat him..
Only on an internet forum can a fight who beat another champion and gained another championship belt be called overrated Boxing is one of the only sports where there is such paralysis by overanalysis. If a soccer team/basketball team/nfl team win by 1point/goal in extra/over time, everyone celebrated the great win, no one says they were crap because they didn't win by 50 points/5 goals The narrow wins are actually more well regarded
