Not blind. It's how you score fights.. Porter coming forward recklessly and not doing a thing isn't impressive.
If you score based on clean punching, Spence won. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t competitive. The scores do not have to be close for a fight to be competitive.
Being blind is not being able to see one guy landing punches. Porter was landing just as much as Spence, more in some rounds. You have to have some serious blindness/bias to not be able to see all the quality work Porter was doing.
I thought it was very close and could have gone either way ...The knockdown swayed it for me The best i have seen Porter though,i usually hate watching him but he impressed me this time,as did Spence... Crawford beats them both on the same night though imo
I had Porter up after 10 rounds 6-4 but he lost the fight in the last two rounds. 114-113 Spence. I also think Spence shouldve had a point taken for all the low blows.
Really, really good fight. Props to both dudes. 7-5 Spence. Every damn Porter fight I watch is 7-5 one way or the other. Spence seems to be getting a lot of flack for winning a clear (IMO) but very competitive decision against a top 5 fighter in his division. Porter is a good fighter, I've no idea how beating him in a close fight has suddenly knocked Spence down somewhat. It reminds me of GGG-Jacobs in that sense. Spence fought well. Porter fought well. Porter managed to impose his way of fighting on the match, which you can see as a criticism of Spence, but Spence won playing Porter's game. Off the back of that and their last outings, I'd back Porter to smash Brook to pieces and beat Thurman this time around too. I think I possibly still have Spence over Crawford but that's mostly because I still need to see Crawford beat a GOOD Welter first. I know, I know, not Bud's fault etc but that's how it is. At some point Bud is probably not going to look amazing against someone he should and then we'll be shitting on him too.
Would have to go back and score the fight round by round to give my official score, but watching last night I thought it was an extremely difficult match to score.. on one hand I felt Spence had some nice inside defense and landed the flasher shots, or the other hand Porter's pure aggression and activity could be argued as being overwhelming. Thought every single round was super debatable looking at the round by round last night I could see most thought the same. Ultimately I felt the knockdown in the 11th is what sealed it for Spence. On another note but idk what it is but man this generation is nowhere near as good as the last, the sport needs to progress not regress it very few fighters current that I think could be competitive in different eras. The fact that Manny Pacquiao almost 3 decades and 7 divisions up is currently still the best WW is a testament to that, I would pick him vs everybody at 47 right now.
I scored it 116-111 for Spence, not at home so I will edit this and post my official scorecard later. Of note for me was Round 3, I specifically remember marking that as a close round. (some others too but I just can't recall by memory right now). I gave that to Spence but that could've gone to Porter. That would still have the fight 115-112 for me. I personally can't find more than 5 rounds to give to Porter. It was a close fight but I definitely thought Spence won it. He did alot of good work in between, good work when he got distance, and nullified a lot with his shoulders ( a lot more than some on here give him credit for). Porter did a good job spinning off the ropes, staying close to Spence, and once again showed his chin was boss. He made it tough (like always) and I think this fight can only help Spence going forward. Disclaimer: I admit to a bias where I will generally rate the more aesthetic boxer's work higher than the brawler's.
I dont score fights but the KD was crucial and that’s what made a difference. Fight was close but the right man got the decision.
I agree fella . Would love a rematch but I don’t think Spence will go for it yet.tbh I like both fighters so wasn’t too fussed on the winner but I thought porter nicked it
Agreed This was a difficult fight to score IMO It was after all Porter old swarm style match which covers up a lot of his and the opponents work
