Eduardo Lausse - The man they called 'KO'

'Under the auspices of President Juan Peron noted fight manager Charley Johnston made several sojourns down Argentine way in the 1950s to fight and hold exhibitions with his stable, which included greats like Archie Moore and Sandy Saddler. During one of these trips Johnston kept hearing about a powerful middleweight who was supposedly in possession the most destructive left hook in all of South America, maybe even the world. In fact he had fought a great main event battle recently with the legendary Kid Gavilan at Luna Park Stadium, jarring the veteran champion on several occasions in losing a close decision.

Upon meeting this young man and watching him spar Johnston was impressed, so much so that he immediately made arrangements to get him passage to America as soon as possible. He was sure this aggressive battler would be an absolute sensation in the States and he was not wrong. He had already cleaned out all the competition in his native land, his record boasting an impressive 31 knockouts in 38 victories. Indeed, the young slugger- whom the American press would dub “KO”- went on to become perhaps the most exciting fighter of the decade. His name was Eduardo Lausse.'

 

Good write up and thread! Since he was a little before my time he slipped a bit under my radar and I really only knew him in name only. Being a Fullmer fan (no I can’t give a rational reason for why lol), it was there I first really checked him out. Unfortunately not a ton of footage available but thankfully there is a little readily available on YouTube. Well worth checking out. Exciting fighter

Thank you for posting the film footage. I think Lausse was the most exciting fighter of the decade, or at least up there with Bob Satterfield.

You want a super exciring Argentino fighter friends, look up "El Mano" Jose Gatica. I actually have a movie in spanish about this guy. Like a "Hands of Stone" type movie with actors. He was very rxciting and the hero of Argentina. Moreso than Lausse. More along the love of Galindez

 

Yes he was! Argentina loved him. Like a latin Gatti for the Pampas. I wish I could read spanish to be able to read bios of Gatica Monzon Zarate and others I know exists.

Dude this guy is so fun to watch.
He had crackin power and some solid boxing skill too. He had a really nice hook.

 

Lausse does have a nice left hook, his elbow stays close to his body and then a nice follow through, good weight transfer from his front foot to his rear foot. Doubles the hook by recoiling his body each time. Nice, wouldn't mind seeing more of him.

"Eduardo Lausse, from Argentina, won his 30th straight bout tonight on a unanimous decision over Gene Fullmer of West Jordan, Utah, in a 10 round battle at MSG. Although the left-hooker from Buenos Aires was sliced around the right eye in the 5th round, and shaken by Fullmer's right hand in the 3rd, he raked the American down the stretch. Lausse dropped Fullmer in the 8th round with a solid left hook and the knockdown counter got as high as 'four' before referee Mark Conn ruled it was no knockdown. It appeared to be a clean knockdown to most of the crowd of about 4,000 who paid app. $11,000 to see the nationally televised match. For one stretch of about 30 seconds in the 7th round, the two men stood up and traded punches freely without backing up a step. Through the last three rounds, Lausse rained steady punishment on Fullmer, a game lad who was losing his third fight in 35 starts." -Associated Press
