Um yeah we not seeing Spence vs Bud for a long time or ever.. Great business for Errol and PBC bad for us fans.. And if you wondering why it’s great because Spence only had a 2 million guarantee unlike someone like Andre Ward who was guaranteed 7 million for Kovalev II..
Not really that impressed, tbh. The only thing that makes this somewhat decent is just how much of a foregone conclusion the result was perceived to be. I dont think there was a lot of anticipation for this fight, due to people feeling they already knew what was going to happen. But, with Spence being a p4p fighter and one of if not the number one welter. And Shawn being a top 5 welter who has had plenty of high profile fights by now, and being a regular on tv with his hosting gig.... idk, Im just not gonna celebrate 300k. Its not horrible I guess.... but not really celebration worthy, imo.
It’s a financial success when the fighters guarantees are only 2 million so there’s not much financial risk for FOX.. Errol’s gonna walk away with about $10 million.. If this was like Canelo vs GGG I where the guarantees were $20 and $15 million then obviously that would be horrible numbers.. All this is doing is given PBC justified reasons in avoiding Bud Crawford’s presence unless he agrees to a ridiculous PPV split and fight on FOX PPV.. Good business for them bad business for us fans..
FOX did an amazing job promoting this fight, as far as I understand. Give them Crawford and Khan, and the PPV buys would have been about the same, if not better.
That fight is almost dead now. Unless Crawford breaks away from TR and signs with Haymon. And he needs to do it soon.
The main and co-main event's guaranteed purses were 6mil. That is nothing to scoff at. Errol is new to the PPV scene and initially, this wasn't supposed to be on PPV. This is why the guarantees were "low". (Spence was guaranteed 3mil for Mikey). I think it's a financial success because they delivered similar numbers to Spence's first PPV. It means they now have a core audience and some sort of a baseline. I don't see how Spence could get 10 mil tho. Must have been one hell of a gate. And it sadly is bad for us fans. Hopefully Arum just takes one for the team, but I doubt it. No way PBC let's their first PPV star jump ship.
300k is a huge success for this fight. Spence is becoming a PPV star. In general, like it or not, but boxing belongs on PPV. And illegal streaming is one of the worst things that happened to boxing.
I love hearing this and never would have expected it. Both Spence and Porter deserve it. The first fight was so good that a rematch would also do great numbers.
Very good numbers. Maybe Mayweather bought 100,000 PPV's because that's higher than many estimated. Spence is more popular.
Good numbers for this day and age of illegal streams the Welterweight division is stacked and if the greedy promoters can get the fights that we want made? Well we could be in for a very interesting 12-18 months.
It’s a tough one as I can see PBC plan is to keep Spence on PPV ticking over in comfortable wins and then try and take out Paq when he ages. That’s the only fight that sells Spence to the casual audience which is needed to sell more than 300k buys. It’s clear at the moment based on all of the non Paq manPPV for PBC that the number is capped below 400k. Will be interesting going forward as surely Spence has been promised higher guarantees going forward which don’t work out unless he sells bigger PPVs. Otherwise I’d be looking to get in on that DAZN money.
