I know that I will probably get more posts about this in the lounge, but I figured I would post it here first. Does anybody know Frank Bruno's training routine?
im not sure about his routines but i do know he was one of the most dedicated trainers in the history of the heavyweights, almsot to to point of addiction!!!...
a while a go i read a book called 'eye of the tiger' by frank bruno an auto biography as it happened and it mentioned his training i cant remember much but i do remember he had a massage in the morning and a 4 mile walk with his trainer at night but it was a cracking read i will have a look for the book and post back soon
Credit goes to a poster on a different forum: From Workouts from Boxing's Greatest Champs by Gary Todd Warm Up - 15-20 minutes full body stretching Shadowboxing - 3 x 3 minute rounds working on cominations (30 second break after each round) Heavybag - 4 x 3 minute rounds (30 second break after each round) (Frank sometimes substitutes sparring for the Heavybag) Focus Pads - 3 x 3 minute rounds working on combinations, or trying new ones (30 second break after each round) Speed Bag - 3 x3 minute rounds (30 second break after each round) Stationary Bike - 18 minutes (listening to Walkman) Machine Gymwork - seated chest press, out from shoulders, in and out at fast pace cable machine, alternating hands out, at fast pace light weights, high reps at fast pace pulldown cable machine seated shoulder pressup above head at fast pace Abdominal exercises - 100 side-to-sides 3 x 20 leg raises with medicine ball (30 second break after each round) 3 x 20 medicine ball drops (30 second break after each round) sit up/stand ups Weights - Frank hangs weights from specially designed head strap. Once the weight is hooked on, he raises ands lowers his head to build up his neck and shjoulder muscles. To Finish - walk around, have a drink, then a massage
but for a boxer it is a bit of a strange combinaiton of excercises.weights are really looked down upon. ingle has a tendency to ***** to kids who use wieghts. i know ingle doesnt coach bruno but most brit trainers just dont liek to use them. for a bodybuilder or a fitness freak then yeah it makes alot of sense. i watched somthing on youtube about british boxing and had barry mac chattin about frank bruno. how he was a fitness freak and that they couldnt get him out of the gym. he used to spar 15 rounds with sparrign partners changing every 3 rounds, seemed to have tremendous amounts of stamina and endurance. always in condition aswell. yet barry found it ironic that whenever frank got to a big fight he seemed to gas and tire. for a big man with such a great physique that extra muscle mass must of drained him and slowed him down. there is a belif that heat used to kill him. whenever he was in a cold invorment I.E. open air he looked fantastic as soon as he was under bright lights of vegas he just didnt seem to be there. later in his career when he used to do less wiegths and less trainign he seemed to be far more flexable and subtle if not a bit faster.
Frank Bruno trained with the basics, floor work..he was big on road work and miles, and just general conditioning first part of his career. Later on he incorporated more weight training, but still kept to the basics. Frank Bruno was always in shape, always ripped up to ****,a lost generation of heavyweights who always turned up Shawn Ray Style.
I was at 3 camp-s with Him, His problem was confidence. Depending on the day, things could change,I thought George did a great job with Him, Frank, is a Great Guy, end of story.
