I think that prime 1965 Ernie Terrell defeats Joe Bugner by unanimous decision. Sonny Liston was once asked why he would not defend his title against Big Ernie, Sonny replied, He Hugs Everyone More Than I Hug My Wife, Liston stated he was not interested in fighting the notorious mauler. A prime 1968 Jerry Quarry would beat up Bugner, on points. Bugner would look like a Raggedy Andy getting beat up.

Quarrey outworks the much bigger Bugner for a UD.

This is a bout that Quarry should win. Having said that, much would depend on which Jerry Quarry shows up for this fight. The Quarry who fought Buster Mathis, Ron Lyle, and Earnie Shavers should win a convincing decision over Joe. Bugner, however, was durable, and while it is true that he almost always fell short against the top heavys he faced, few looked good in beating him. He could be a frustrating fighter to fight, and anyone going in against him was in for a long night. On paper, Quarry has all the tools to deal with Bugner, but he could be discouraged when the fight was not going his way. If that happened against Bugner, I could see him losing motivation, momentum, and settling into a funk in which Bugner could take the nod. This would probably not be an exciting match to watch, but interesting from a tactical viewpoint. I'd pick Quarry, but would not bet any money on it.

Almost as Godlike as Jerry Quarry on boxing 24 How many titles did Quarry win then?
I'm not a Bugner fan, I just think the best Bugner could give your Bellflower Bomber something to think about. Joe could stink the joint out with his defensive attitude sometimes, but to put a positive spin on this, is probably why he is still around to this day!

You could say the same for Quarry. I picked SD either way or draw.

You’d have to go for Quarry here.
Although Jerry could be inconsistent himself, he still turned up more in big fights than Bugner did.
It tells you something that Bugner’s best effort was in a losing fight against Frazier. To be fair if that Bugner turned up he could win a decision here, but how often did that version turn up? Well er, once against Frazier.

I had ringside tickets for Quarry-Mac Foster Quarry-Shavers Quarry Lyle Quarry Alexander and seen Quarry fight many times. I was a fan of Bugner when he fought Ali and Frazier- he had size, could move a bit and took a good shot. I think the only version of Quarry that Bugner would beat is the shot Quarry of the Norton fight - There were other fights Quarry came into to lose such as Ali and Frazier 2 but these were great fighters with olympic gold pedigree.

The best I see Bugner doing is going the distance and making it interesting

He sure did not give him anything to think about when they sparred, Jimmy Quarry told me "Joltin Joe" Never got off the ropes, and Complained Jerry was trying to kill em! JERRY JUST ROLLED HIIS EYES AT ME (Quoting Jimmy Q.). Bugner can be the the next best thing since the Jaguar XKE, However I saw him fight to many times, -he did not have the punch to hang with Quarry is an understatement. And ya safety first strategy he's still around!

i would pick Duane Bobick over Bugner, Joe's not going to hurt him, and thats going to give Duane a lot of confidence, he had a very good and aggressive body attack when not blasted by punchers. Norton, Knoetze, and Tate.

to be fair i would give Bugner a better shot against Quarry, had he beat some of Jerry's victories WHICH HE DID NOT, And true Jerry'd better show up in Ron Lyle shape, And i bet he would have. COURSE THIS IS PRIME FOR PRIME ANYHOW RIGHT?

Ok Bugner did beat the Scrap Irons, Fosters, and Doyles, but lost handily to Shavers, Middleton, Bodell and Lyle.
