First off, I have max rated at about 25 and Tommy around 95! So I recognize there's a massive difference in skill set here. But we all know that in Boxing it's not as simple as that, so question is, Is Morrison in with a shot against Max?? Morrison from the legend beating fight with Foreman v Schmeling from the legend beating fight with Joe Louis?
Morrison could win, but he probably wouldn't. We would be eminently justified in making Schmeling the favorite.
What do you think was Morrison best performance then? I would definitely have said the Foreman fight personally.
That's his best win imo, but before the stoppage against Mercer he was a beast, he just happened to be in there against someone who he couldn't KO and wasted his energy trying to. He did box well against Foreman but he had already started to not train probably and was slipping from a few fights earlier. Imo his prime was around the Mercer fight.
I felt that he fought much smarter against Foreman, and would have been harder to beat in that fight.
I'm inclined to disagree mate. Personally, I think Morrison on offence was a true wrecking machine, but a fragile one. I don't think that Schmeling would KO Morrison, but it's definitely not out of the question. I think that the Morrison of the Mercer fight would be too overpowering for Schmeling and whilst Louis is in absolutely the better fighter, by several lightyears, he wasn't bigger, stronger or hit as hard imo. I feel like a Morrison who was slower, and trying to outbox a master craftsman in this case, is not as good H2H. Just my own 2$.
I suspect that if you gave Schmeling the choice, he would rather face the Morrison of the Mercer fight.
Oh yeah Maxy steps into the iron chins boots and replicates what Mercer did... Gotta love this twisted place
No I don't think he did, I was making a little joke. Although there are rumours he had it as early as 89
I've seen Schmeling look really good, and I've seen him look ... average. Morrison is pretty consistent, he does what he does and if he lands that big left hook its probably goodnight. I'd say Tommy definitely has a chance, especially given how hard he hits and how much weight he has on Schmeling. I'd make this 50-50. If Tommy doesn't get him early, all those big muscles are going to see him gas against tricky Schmeling and he'll likely get stopped himself. If Schmeling uses his Baer strategy, and marches straight in, then Morrison stops him early. He's a heavy handed puncher and frankly I think his left is better than anything Baer threw.
