Robinson comes in at 147 while Monzon comes in at 160.

Tuff, I'll take Robinson based on what we can assume his speed was like. His chin was good enough to take what Monzon had to offer and his quickness would make up for his size and stylistical disadvantages imo.

Although bump the thread this time tomorrow and I'll probably have a different answer.

It's possible Robinson wins, but I wouldn't bet on it

Carlos Monzon was great, but Sugar Ray Robinson, in his prime had it all. Ray by decision, he could withstand that paralyzing right hand of Monzon, both had good chins. Too much movement and speed. Both are my all time favorites.

Monzon beats SSR in a 15 round decision. Monzon IMO, was the greatest middleweight champion, and would be poison for Ray...all wrong for him. I still say that SRR was the greatest fighter ever, but that wouldn't help him at all at middleweight.

Why is Monzon poison for Ray? I think the opposite is truer. Too much speed and skill.
    I prefer a Ray that's around 154lbs though

Monzon beats a 147 lb SRR. In lower weight divisions weight becomes important. 5-10 lbs can be an insurmountable advantage. Plus Monzón was top 5 ATG middleweight.

That's basically it...so rather than me once again justifying my pick of Monzon...I'll defer all others to your post.

Why do you think Monzon is a bad match up for Ray. And what opponents are you looking at as reference for that?
