Hearn says Golovkin has been ill this week: This content is protected There was some discussion about this from the Dazn commentators.
I do legitimately believe that Golovkin had the flu against Ouma, nor do I suspect this is BS about him being sick in the last week necessarily, but... It does make a pretty funny-looking coincidence that whenever he is facing a tricky opponent with a style to make him struggle, all of a sudden he's like some delicate bubble-boy that escaped out into the great big germy world and got his precious immune system compromised. Attn:. GGG haters. This is a joke. Do not decide to just take and run with the proverbial ball here and go quoting IB as saying GGG was indubitably faking illness to excuse his performances in either fight.
Which just goes to show you how much of a monster Golovkin really is. He was just in a war at 37 years old against an accomplished very skilled heavy-handed fighter, and he still didn't go down, and did just enough to win. Now that's ****ing impressive.
I agree with you that SD would give him just as much trouble but this fight was about keeping GGG in line for a 3rd Canelo fight. If GGG gets a 3rd fight with Canelo I believe it will be his last fight. For GGG at this point in his career, it is all about the money.
I know this might be hard to believe because Hearn obviously has something to gain for coming up with a reason for GGG's performance. But to be fair, there were all sorts of rumors around about why AJ lost to Ruiz and Eddie just said they were all untrue. He said he wished they were....they just weren't. So that makes me think maybe GGG really was sick.
As a GGG fan, this makes me feel a lot better. Still, not taking anything away from Derev. He fought his heart out. Most bold I have ever seen a GGG opponent fight over an entire fight.
This excuse making was being uttered before he fought Brook as well. https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/does-ggg-looked-drained.573018/ If he was ill then its probably cos he's been making MW for too long. He needs to move up.
Yeah he looked sweaty and a little bit worried about the whole situation. Normally he is all smiling and in good mood. When he made his ringwalk he looked imo strange
This is what happens when you do a botch job on moving to 168. You can't go half way there & turn around. GGG didn't fight at 164 for rolls sake lol, he fought there because it's hard for him to make 160
