    Round 9

Morán is abandoning his unhinged brawling, as it wasn't really working for him, and is now keeping pace with Álamo, sticking a double jab directly into his chin, anticipating his jerky flinching motions and calibrating his aim to where Alamo is likely to end his movements. Morán is able to find a home for the right cross, busting down the door with a couple of hard knocks with the left. Álamo seems very discomfited by this rediscovery on Morán's part of his ability to put his length to its optimal use by doubling the jab and committing to it as fully as he previously was his lower-percentage telegraphed power shots. Álamo not throwing much, just weak backfoot jabs.

    10-9 Morán

    86-85 Álamo

The unofficial Telemundo commentator's scorecard has it 87-84 Álamo.

    Round 10

Álamo is desperately parlaying his constant leftward circling motion into big roundhouse left hooks designed to slow Morán, but they do no such thing, only boiling his Mexican blood and inspiring him to charge unto the breach with renewed vigor. Hard straight combos by Morán pinning Álamo into the ropes before it devolves into a messy series of haymakers and smothered downward hacks from both men. They exchange furiously until the bell, albeit with little getting through cleanly.

    10-9 Morán

    95-95

Hell yeah, IB has still got it.

(not that it would have really bothered me if all three cards were like 98-92 either way, but good to know that I triangulated in on the mean & median score, which is usually the fairest indication of how a fight went)

Also, calling it now, boricua glass is GOING to shatter whenever Álamo steps up in class for real. Morán is by far his best opponent to date and is the same hapless patsy Devin Haney used as target practice and then destroyed back in May.

Nice little war between unbeaten José Ocasio and once-beaten Gabriel Bernardi on the aftercard.

OMG, horrifying kayo ...Ivan Reyes damn near murdered by Deron Thompson.

Nail-biting scene, with even the American victor down on hands and knees to keep a concerned vigil over Reyes as they load him onto a medical pallet and straps his limbs in place.

FFS, now I'm scared to Google status updates on Reyes, lest I find he died over the weekend or something..

Are you kidding me?!?! They ended the broadcast with Reyes being stretchered off, as that just about filled their 90 minute slot.

This card had originally caught my interest primarily because it featured a 6-rounder on the undercard between Fredrick Lawson and Carlos Winston Velásquez Munguía. Like... I don't mind having "sat through" Bernardi vs. Ocasio and Thompson vs. Reyes, as both were very entertaining (until the latter turned frightening) but... damn. Lawson is a legitimate fringe world class guy; a spot for his match to be televised should've been found.

    Yeah...

I'm officially a Deron Thompson fan, btw - not so much for the KO (although it was a sick display of power) as for the character he showed afterward. No parading around gloating or flashing gang signs or anything...just compassion for his fellow sportsman. Imagine that had been AB in that situation.. :shakehead:

Yeah, I appreciated that too. He was quite solemn and regretful. The exact reaction a humane person should have.

Reyes did reach up, make a fist and clasp the hand of someone as he was being stretchered off, so I think that was done as a precautionary measure for what was most certainly a harrowing KO. Thompson improved upon the result he had with Reyes the last time around, and looks to be worth watching going forward.
