Not many. Alot of ATGs were raw to begin with and became much much better later on. Experience is priceless. But I think Loma deserved the nod against Salido when I last watched it, so Loma's 1. Leonard probably could've done it against the right champ.

Loma kind of invented that immediate push. Most guys won't have the backing to land a fight like that so soon. You see some more amateurs trying it now. Probably easier with the relaxation on pro/amateur distinction. Madrimov lost an amateur fight earlier this month and won his pro fight. Could other people have done it or do what Loma did going forward? Find a terrible champion and a good amateur. Not hard to find the former in a landscape with a million belts. For a current example, I'd give Lazaro Alvarez a decent shot at beating a current featherweight champion in his first pro fight. If he could make 122, I'd be almost certain. Like with unifying / becoming undisputed, this is really a political question. Of course you have to be a good fighter too. Not shitting on Loma. I think it's more impressive he almost beat Salido than actually beating GRJ.
Roy Jr weighed 155 in his second fight in June 1989. Rene Jacquot held the WBC junior middle title at the time and Darrin Van Horne won the IBF a month later. I reckon RJJ could have shed a pound and taken either. Maybe both in one night.
Maybe Rigondeaux? Depending on the “champ” I guess. I doubt he beats a Russell caliber guy after two fights. I think Roy Jones may have been ready pretty damn early too. It’s hard to handicap because previous eras it was harder to be a “champion” but Loma did beat a good fighter to win his.
Loma lost his second pro bout. He also had 6 "am" fights in WSBC which were the same as 5 round pro bouts.
