He already does. As the former undisputed cruiserweight champion moving up, the WBO's rule is that he's their mandatory. So either put up or vacate for Ruiz/Joshua.
Ffs Joey Dawejko is a 5’10 sparring partner with a 35% KO ratio and a loss to the God that is Charles Martin. One tweet and he’s suddenly being portrayed as a bogeyman on here. I’m sure Hearn would’ve sent out a dozen contracts overnight to nail down a last minute opponent for Usyk. At least they’ve picked an experienced 6’4 heavyweight in Witherspoon with a 71% KO ratio.
It seems like Ruiz would vacate. Depends on how cocky Hearn is with Joshua if he’s champ; that could go either way. Cashing out Joshua against Wilder would make more business sense.
That's it, most probably. They just cannot allow to spend even a day more, so preferred to be reinsured. But, to be fair, it would be nice to inform Dawejko that "Thank you, blah-blah, but, unfortunately, we already chose another... " Because if Dawejko knew about Usyk vs. Witherspoon from the media he has any moral right to be pissed off.
I see. I agree with you. He is coming off an injury, has not fought in a while and is moving up in weight. Makes sense he has a tune up and sees how it goes.

Charles Martin floored Dawejko and stopped him in four. I don't want to hear anyone talk about Usyk being the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in boxing if Joey "freaking" Dawejko is too "risky" to take on with a few days notice. Usyk's had a full camp. And it's not like Dawejko is remotely in shape or anything like that. He's a 5'10" journeyman for God's sake. Usyk's supposed to be elite, right? He's supposed to be the Pound-for-Pound #1, right? He's supposed to be the #1 heavyweight, right? What a joke! Usyk showed his colors when he turned pro at heavyweight and decided it would be easier and safer to fight at cruiser. This just makes all the more clearer.
FEAR THE USYK GOD? If the "Usyk God" and his fans (like you) think Dawejko is too risky ... what does that make Dawejko?
