I don't know if he was "terrified" of fighting Tyson, but either Foreman or Liston didn't have the foot or hand speed of a prime Tyson.

I'd favor Rocky by TKO IN 5

All of what you've wrote is very true. But still, He was a World class fighter with plenty of Championship experience. His body language and face showed his defeat before the fight actually began. My old trainer once said make your opponents beat you, never beat yourself. Spinks showed he was defeated to Tyson before the 1st punch was thrown. And what we later learned about Tyson and his weak mind.... Who knows...

Not to mention he was fighting a prime Mike Tyson...

I'd definitely favour Rocky by stoppage but why in 5? His best wins never came in 5. He wore down his best opponents.

Your trainer was a very wise man. He knew what he was talking about.

Tyson could smell fear on a fighter. He was a hunter. It brought the best out of him. And he was young. Tyson got used to that. He recognised that. Better than anybody.

A guy who was ready, who had a deathwish, was a different matter.

At that level, they’re all great fighters. When everything is equal, a mind unraveling can be the difference. Spinks unraveled.

Conn would come the closest...but would fall short.

You can use the "Peralta" line when discussing Foreman, but that wasn't prime GF, so nevermind.

I believe no fighter lightheavyweight or heavyweight in history including clay of 65 could beat a prime Sonny Liston. Greatest Heavyweight in History

I'm confused. Clay was nowhere near the light-heavyweight limit in 1965.

What gives you this opnion. While I agree with Lt.heavy but you also added Heavy, I can think of two heavyweights off the top of my head that beat Liston at anytime in his career. Including the one that actually did it......Twice.

I guess what you must mean is that the Liston of '59 to '62 could beat the Ali of '65 to '68? All I can say is, "good luck."

Just watching and studying the heavyweight division all my life. I think Sonny had everything it took at his absolute best to defeat them all. The sonny of 1960 was not the Sonny of 1964. I believe Sonny had the most lethal left hand in boxing history and was impenetrable at his best. I think if Clay had not gotten a hernia the Sonny would have won the second fight when it was originally scheduled. He trained like an animal. After it was postponed he had no more will for the sport.
