I cant lie I absolutely loved this fight, first off people underrate Maidana outside of the Alexander fight and the 2nd Mayweather fight at worst you can argue him drawing or winning every other fight, Khan he really won and beat him down after the first 2 rounds, Kotelnic he really beat him and lost by super close SD, and gave Mayweather the fight of his life in the first bout when he entered as defending WBA Champ.

As for this fight Maidana put down a beatdown so epic while Broner had some spot moments, this is the fight that you would think would have knocked some since into him, yet sadly he didn't either way big shout out for one of the funniest nights of boxing in this decade for me

Side note looking at this fight and chinos career and Thurman who was the regular champ at the time, why were people so adamant that Thurman was the harder fight.

2013 Maidana stops 2013 Thurman on body shots

People need to give Broner respect for this fight. He could have quit like a bunch of lesser fighters have done and would have done here. But he kept fighting, took his beating and in the final round tried his best to land a KO punch. The only thing that let him down was the exaggeration at the head butt but he got up and took his beating. He has more heart than anyone in this thread.

Yeah, we get it CutTF; he's no punk inside that ring. But he talks like a punk, acts like a punk...and we know what happens to punks:

I feel like fighting maidana would be hell. His ability to grind guys out with that unorthodox style would be torture. I loved seeing him put it on broner like that but was honestly impressed he took it.

AB is one of 2 supposed up in coming I felt would be exposed. By definition. Him & Left Hook Lacy.

I bet against AB in this fight because of his ..copy cat style of Floyd. Felt he would use his legs only to move to one side of the ring to the other, then lay on the ropes. Perfect disaster for him, because I felt Maidana would rough him up. Only Floyd can use that somewhat illegal elbow, while on the ropes. AB has good timing, Floyd has impeccable timing. Nothing less than impeccable would deter Marcos IMO.

Plus, I feel/felt AB doesn't have great footwork, to me that would be a Hopkins, who can twist, pivot, take one step & he's out of harms way. Hop never had to take 3-4-5 steps to get out of range, rather AB does. And when he stops moving...Marcos IMO would do damage.

He took his whooping just like Lacy took his with Joe. I don't really give credit to hyped fighters taking a beating. What would've impressed me if he had won, because I didn't think he could.

Good foresight on that one. many, including myself, didnt see it coming. You certainly analyzed habits and subtle nuances that I missed. In any case, I'm glad maidana humbled broner, It got him 2 floyd fights afterward and allowed him to retire before the sport got the better of him

I kinda disagree with this part.
Broner actually came on strong after the 9th. He finished the fight well.
For the most part Broner was just looking to kill the clock. He was basically in survival mode the entire fight. And in the 9th round he took a bad beating following the 8th round KD.
Broner mostly fired back to get Maidana off of him. He didn´t seem capable of adapting at all.

But at the end of the 9th, Broner dug deep and walked Maidana down. He took his beating but he also looked to turn the fight around. He gave it his absolute all in the closing rounds. And I applaud him for that.
Maidana was just the better man that night.

This night showed that Broner had potential to grow. It was the perfect lesson. But Broner ended up regressing as a boxer. A shame really.

No problem, understood, but the line above distracted me. for some reason I thought about a Richard Pryor skit who said in the Ali rematch with Spinks--

Pryor: " ...Cause Ali didn't REALLY beat him. He just beat Spinks off of him LMAO!!!"

And i agree, AB had potential to learn, but when Floyd started dissing him a few years prior, I figured AB wanted to be a star more so than being a great boxer.

    Yup, seems like it.
I always viewed him as someone who was just going through the gears. And every now and then he would say that he is taking things seriously now, that he is working hard!
But to me, it seemed like he was just working hard to get into great condition.
Meanwhile Floyd was working hard to stay in top shape, but a lot of focus was put on technique. Broner missed the technique part, or so it seemed to me. (As you can see Floyd´s game changed over the years, while Broner is still pretty much the same he was back in 2012)
