He did. But my problem is the individuals trying to dismiss Usyk’s chances because of size and lack of pop.
no doubt! Also, after seeing Fury struggle against a relatively unskilled southpaw in his last fight, I favor Byrd in that matchup. Byrd was a slick dude and he knew how to fight. Couldn’t break an egg with his best shot but it didn’t stop him from collecting some big time scalps.
no he’s certainly up there. Does fury hit much harder than usyk? I doubt there’s much difference. Everyone knows he was in first gear against Witherspoon and just didn’t want to be clipped and put on his backside, that would just give the doubters more fuel. I like usyk, in and outside the ring, seems a funny guy
you make a great point. Vitali didn’t have one shot power and Byrd eventually managed to outlast him, so could see him doing the same with fury.
I'd say around the same size. I've met both and they were around my height. I'm just under 6'1" at 184 cm, so I'd estimate that both Byrd and Usyk are round 6'1" or 185-186 cm. Usyk definitely isn't 6'3" though, since when he was at our gym the fight factory Malik Scott, who is 6'3" was few inches taller than Usyk.
Hey, nice name! Was just pointing out, Byrd was definitely not bigger than Usyk. Cool that you met both guys. Byrd seems like a good guy, from Detroit, I believe. If Usyk has half of Byrd’s success he will be a very rich man and an accomplished HW.
Vitali was injured, Byrds a great little fighter but a healthy Vitali deals with him..Fury would be getting out slicked then go Cunningham on him at some stage imo, if Fury gets frustrated he can go rough to get his way, he can be tough and gritty and would make Byrd fight hard until he got the upper hand
I’m probably one of the biggest fury fans on here, but I’m honest and Byrd is criminally underrated and I like to think I call a spade a spade. vitali got injured due to his style and repeatedly missing Byrd. Byrd showed true toughness to hang in there, and if he can do it to vits he can do it tyson. would still favour Tyson however
Vitali was ahead on all cards against Byrd (88-83,88-83,89-82) when he retired in his corner after the ninth round due to a torn rotator cuff. In hindsight it appears as though he made the right decision.
yeah he was. And Byrd showed a champions mind set by coming out round after round. Vitali got injured by hitting fresh air, wlad found him much easier as he hit so much heavier with accuracy. Byrd should get credit for refusing to give up, bad match up for vitali.
Were it not for the serious injury to his shoulder Vitali was on his way to winning a unanimous decision over Byrd.
I agree, vitali was winning the rounds but he kept missing = torn rotator cuff. This was because Byrd made him miss, over reaching and thus causing the injury. that is skill. Chris arreola couldn’t do that, styles make fights. The fact vitali couldn’t carry on is testament to Byrd
A torn rotator cuff is by far the most common injury suffered by boxers, and while Byrd was more elusive than your average heavyweight, Vitali suffered a similar injury against the stationary Derek Chisora. Sometimes lady luck isn't in one's corner.
yet again vitali could keep chisora off him one handed because he was elite. Also, chisora totally different style to byrd. byrd was a level above chisora and would easily UD him
Definitely. If Usyk can stay injury free and in tip top shape he has the tools to become a champ at heavyweight, since he did show in the Bellew fight that he can think on his feet and make adjustments. He struggled a bit with Bellew's head movement and timing, but never let Bellew setup the left hook, which was demoralizing for Bellew, since Bellew would've been able to put his combos on any other cruiserweight and win the fight.
