    Muhammad Ali vs Archie Moore

    RD1 Ali 10-9
Clay(Ali) using his jab and distance well, as the powerful veteran of the ring Moore, ducks and stalks his way into distance, but finds himself unable to close on Ali. Ali continues to fight tremendously off the back foot, using his jab and fast combinations to fluster the stalking Moore. By the end of the round, a fairly stationary Moore lets Clay take center ring and throw power shots as the bell rings.

    RD2 Ali 10-9
To begin the round, Clay stands center ring, and attempts to pick at a seemingly tiring Moore, who on his veteran, but very worn legs, spent a lot of energy trying to pin down Clay in round 1. Moore attempts to clinch, but following the break, Clay continues to stand center ring, and wobbles Moore with a straight right hand. Moore doesn't seem to have an answer for Clay, attempting wild, winging punches to attempt to get Clay along the ropes, to no avail. Clay circling Moore in center ring, trying to land power shots, as Moore is stationary and has little answer for the speed of Clay. Clay rips left and right hooks in rapid succession to end the round.

    RD3 Ali 10-9
Clay begins the round, again controlling center ring, while ripping shots into the head of Moore, more as a means to control his man, rather than trying to land the big blow. Moore continues to have no answers, as the height, reach, and footwork of Clay are far superior, and Clay is doing what he pleases in first minute of the round. Moore is attempting very few punches, and gets stung by another straight right from Clay that wobbles his legs again. Clay steps on the gas this time, attacking his man and backs him into the ropes with his continued attacks. Clay continues to be patient, as the ever tiring Moore can do little other than wing the occasional power shot, to no avail.

Finally, in RD4, Clay has Moore so tired and desperate, he clips him in an exchange and drops Moore. The veteran, tough as nails Moore, rises, only to be dropped again, as much out of exhaustion as it is from the punches from Clay. Moore rises once again, only to be dropped again seconds later, finally ending the fight.

    Ali 30-27 at stoppage

    Winner- Ali TKO4

Indeed buddy. Figure I'd branch out some and add my scores here. Had a list of fights that I'd been compiling and getting pages in a few notebooks ready to score, but have been slacking, and just got it done. Finally time to score and compile them.

Vicente Saldivar vs Howard Winstone II

Anyone know if the full fight of the first encounter is out there?

This is an awesome technical hard hitting chess match, untill round 10 when Saldivar is at his relentless best! Winstone is such a smooth boxer a shame he didn’t have the power necessary at the highest level.

Winstone moving and boxing well early. Saldivar gets the timing down and mounts an attack from the 3rd rd on that I am not sure any FW ever could withstand. Not sure how Winstone survives these final 5 rounds especially the 14th.

    Caveman Lee vs John LoCicero

what a fun fight to revisit.

rounds 1-3 a little more technical than I remembered and Caveman shows some good skill that I had forgotten he had. He controls the first 3 rounds behind a solid jab, better defense than credited for and does an awesome job in the role of a counterpuncher as well as rallying with his back to the ropes.

round 4 more of the same till midway when LoCicero lands good caveman is stunned. John turns it on and is hammering away. Lee shows toughness now to match the earlier skill. He looks out on his feet with LoCicero on the offensive but he won’t go down.

5 LoCicero looks tired and Lee now hammers away! LiCicero is ready to go..but LoCicero storms back rallying and stuns Lee! Lee is ready to go.....check it out!

round 5 is round of the year and worth watching for that alone!

Frank The Animal Fletcher vs William Caveman Lee

the prefight comment from Lee “I will knock him out in 3” and the Fletcher reply “no f’n way”!

Lee looks enormous compared to Fletcher. But Fletcher is not intimidated by the size or reputation of Lee.

1-2 Fletcher gets inside early and takes the fight there at every turn, Lee can’t seem to establish any kind of rhythm in the early going and Fletcher ups it another notch in round 2 hammering away on the larger Lee.

3 Fletcher right back where he left off for about 20 seconds...Lee seems to turn it and get the timing and range down finally able to impose his size and reach. But midway Fletcher perseveres and scored good inside and pounds Lee who is saved by the ropes from going down.

round 4- Fletcher back on Lee. Lee settles in and lands good trying to create separation. But it is short lived. Fletcher is a man possessed! Fletcher lands big and follows it up and down goes Lee. Lee looks out of it and Fletcher again pounces....finally the ref waves it off (a tad early IMO, but I like this stuff lol) and the Animal is victorious!

    Leland Hardy vs Ike Padilla

not the normal fights we watch, but this was an epic battle from 2 upstarts whose careers ended soon after this war.

scheduled for 6 rounds buried deep on an Alex Stewart undercard. These 2 unknowns gave the boxing world a performance for the ages...but most of the world has missed it! Don’t let that be you, check these 2 gladiators out.

Every punch thrown with bad intentions. Padilla starts strong landing bombs galore, Hardy battles back but this round belongs to Padilla.

round 2- Padilla picks up the pace even more swinging for and end! He drops Hardy and this might be over soon. Hardy keeps his wits about him, and avoids danger as Padilla punches himself weary. Hardy rallies and now Padilla looking fatigued and winded goes down! Call it even on my card

round 3- both men back at it, Padilla throwing hard and down goes Hardy. Hardy looks done and out on his feet....but Padilla looks winded. Back at it a devastating uppercut from Hardy, and it is lights out for Padilla! The sugar man wins!

check this out you won’t be disappointed

    Salvador Sanchez v Azumah Nelson

Never a bad time to revisit this one but a heavy cold and a gloomy October were reason enough.

Can’t remember if I’ve actively scored this before but I had it very close going into the final round.

A tale of two halves, the first half of the fight Sanchez built up a healthy lead, particularly with the knockdown in the 7th. After that, Nelson came on and had Sanchez under serious pressure. On my card I had Sanchez needing to win the final round to retain his title, which he did in style.

A fight that elevated the reputations of both fighters.

Funny this is my 2nd favorite fight of all time, and I don’t think I have ever scored it before. If my ADHD does not distract me I will try to watch it this weekend.

this really was a terrific bout. Hardy had another great back and forth fight after this but I can't recall the opponent's name.

In-Jin Chi vs Michael Brodie I

It is fights like this that make boxing great and so much fun! Two gladiators lay it all on the line and go to war!

so many ebbs and flows during this fight! Chi controls early, Brodie the middle and Chi finishes strong in the final rounds.

great fight marred by controversy on a few levels.

rd 1 an accidental headbutt leaves Chi hurt badly, yet Brodie is cut on top of his head. The controversy! Brodie is deducted a pt. (Without that he wins a SD...although I still have him down 3 pts without it).

The final count- takes about 10 minutes while both fighters await the verdict! Chi wins a decision...30 minutes later they determine 1 card deducted 2 pts from Brodie, instead of 1....fight is now officially a draw.

3 the judges- Brodie gave a gutty performance, but I can’t find any round to give him or call even...perhaps 12...but even then I have Chi winning. I need someone else to score this to see if you find it closer than I did.

every round is closely contested except for a few...I only found 2 rounds 8/12 difficult to score and I gave 8 to Brodie and 12 to Chi but could see them even or for either guy without much trouble.

    RBR
    1 Chi 10-8 (Brodie deduction)
    2 Chi 10-8 (KD) (chi 20-16)
    3 Brodie
    4 Brodie (chi 38-36)
    5 Chi (Chi 48-45)
    6 Brodie
    7 Brodie
    8 Brodie (75-75)
    9 Chi
    10 Chi
    11 Chi
    12 Chi (chi 115-111)

the biased British commentary even has Chi winning 115-112 (and they didn’t deduct a pt. In the first), so I don’t know how the judges saw it different.

either way a salute to both guys for tremendous heart and one of the great boxing matches I have been fortunate enough to see!

    Barry Michael vs Frank Ropis

A war of attrition between 2 guys battling each other as well as the heat (40C/105F). Their opposing styles mesh to make a fun fight.

Michael the smooth polished boxer with good movement and hand speed, scoring with his jab and accurate precise punching. Ropis with his stalking, crude slugging power, excellent hooks and uppercuts and hammering body shots. Michael fights great from a back to the ropes position, blocking taking a lot of punches on the arms and countering out. Gives the appearance of Ropis smothering him, but Michael is doing good for himself.

around round 4 the fight heats up matching the temperature, and the intensity escalates making for some close back and forth rounds. Round 10 is well worth a watch.

10 ends with Ropis staggering hurt and fatigued, and early 11 his corner throws in the towel!

it was cool to see Lionel Rose during the prefight intros and I miss when boxing used to do this regularly.

johnny Famechon is the ref, and while he is not totally horrible he is a much better boxer than a ref lol!

    RBR
    1 Michael

    6 Ropis
