IMO, if you gave him 6 months to train for Floyd he’d get smoked. If you took all the time he has spent training BJJ and swapped that for boxing training with an elite level coach then he’d likely have a chance but he’d likely look completely different. Leaving his chin in the air makes no sense in boxing or MMA though.
Fergie is one of the greatest lightweight MMA fighters of all-time and has an amzing chin, but all the training in the world for 6 months wouldn`t have helped him v Floyd.
I think he has the heart for it. The skill? Obviously not. But who knows if he got into that instead a bit earlier and had his skills honed by a good trainer.
Thing that makes Tony dangerous in MMA stand up is the way he puts it together with his elbows and kicks. he combines them so well the opponent just can't see which one they are getting hit with to counter or defend it. Then when he does get rocked and they rush in to finish him he has the wrestling and JJ to grab a hold and submit in a split second, he is a beast the way he can transition through his skill sets, which is why i love watching him and a huge fan of him. In a pure boxing match you are taking away a lot of his stand up weapons such as kicks and elbows. If they could get him to tuck that chin better he may have some success with a low ranked boxer . The top guys would toy with him, same as he would easily be able to end their life in an MMA match in the first round.
No, he doesn’t have the tech on his punches and is too offensive minded. Has a take one to give one mindset. Lacks defense.
