Since I started watching the sport WBC was the Green Belt most wanted. That was my standard. I acknowledged WBC, WBA, IBF. It was Pacman then Cotto that got me to respect the WBO. Over time each organization showed their bias. As far as Lineal and now this IBO, I'm not sure where to Rank them
Ring was the last I respected. Now I am not sure if Dela Hoya has screwed it up, or I am drinking the Kool-Aid that states Oscar has screwed the rankings till they don't matter. Maybe a bit of both. WBC Ring Lineal This would be my order, unless someone here drops some more horrid stuff about these 3. Hard to keep up with corruption.
I don't really pay more attention to any than the others. They're all quite bad in their ways. In terms of sticking to their rules, I guess the IBF are the best. Their rankings suck but they're probably the most consistent. Then the WBO. The WBC and WBA seem to be in a class of their own for bull****. Ring, don't care about. Lineal similar. IBO\WBF are pretty meaningless
Even with the GBP takeover having cheapened the Ring belt to alphabet org levels, it's still the most legit championship. IBF the best of the alphabet orgs, just because the rest is so incredibly bad. Lineal is kind of a bad joke nowadays, pretty hard to take that seriously.
WBC and the Ring are good. WBA turned itself into a joke. Tyson Fury and Fat Dan/ESPN turned lineage into a joke.
I can't tell one from the other. I ignore all of them. All that garbage goes in one ear and out the other. After all, I have to sacrifice something for all the other crap I have floating around up there to fit in.
The truth is that no belt has a higher priority. All organizations are business companies that want to maximize their earnings. Maybe some get more attention because they are louder than the others but at the end of the day every BELT-company play a dice game when it comes to the rankings and they see that they can get good money fight. Every organization is totally implausible. IMO just try to enjoy the sport and thats it. Because of politics, money and lies it`s sometimes really hard to be boxing fan. PS: lineal and ring aren`t even real belts to fight for. So you shouldn`t talk about that. RING is owned by De La Hoya, i think that tells you everything about credibility.
What @PaddyGarcia said re belts I like these guys for rankings https://premierboxingorganisation.com/
Had to. Just in case the PC Police call me out for not mentioning them! As Lineal got 2 votes here so far!
It’s simple, if you made a list of all the WBC, WBO, ring, lineal champs of the past 10 years. You will see very clearly that the bodies with the most respectable and legit list of champs would be Lineal and Ring. The standard bodies are good for creating a sort of tournament, multiple champs create an illusion of having more great fighters out there - but short of undisputed, lineal and ring are usually the kings of that tournament.
Here’s another question. Could broner have been a 4 division lineal or ring champ? Almost impossible. Yet he did it easy with the standard governing bodies. The reason why he couldn’t do it with lineal or ring is cos the champs for those are usually the best or near the best of the division.
I agree, but the compromising of Ring's editorial independence has damaged their credibility, at least in my opinion.
