We all know Joe was not from the USA but he was the best SMW up to now.

he came down 2 divisions at late notice.

Joe Calzaghe was past his prime himself when he schooled Jones and beat Hopkins.

I'll never forget his schooling of Lacy. Joe had a lot of good wins: Eubank, prime Kessler, Bika, Mitchell, etc. He moved up in weight to fight the still very good Hopkins, the 175 champ at the time. Hopkins went on to have many good wins after losing to Joe - Pavlik, Pascal, etc.

Two division Ring and linear champ - ATG fighter, even though he wasn't an American.

Didn't know this. Are you sure? I know he was forced into the Lacy fight, even there were talks of him pulling out in the week of the fight. Barry McGuigan visited the training camp and said things were not going well at all and Joe's confidence was really low. Surprising and as he showcased one of the greatest boxing performances.

    Just 1 division, not 2.

"Eubank, meanwhile, had been training to fight Mark Prince at light heavyweight, but with just two weeks to get down to 168lbs the 31-year-old chose to accept the title bout - and vowed to take the young upstart "into the trenches". http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/boxing/7015378.stm

So, Eubank was already in training for a fight at 175, and had 2 weeks to lose 7 additional pounds.

He attempted to vulture the super middle title again but got more than he bargained for.

It was his choice all along. Just like the Thompson bouts were.

aye 1 division ok but still on a losing streak, he was not entitled to a shot.

Wassen set Joe up for a certified win.

Calzaghe was closer to the end of his career than Jones and Hopkins and Hopkins became LHW champ again.
You know the fact Calzaghe beat Hopkins and had Hopkins holding to last gets to some people because nobody seems to comment as much on all the fighters Hopkins beat after losing to Calzaghe and still viewed them as world class after, like Pascal for example

Try to be more accurate Herol.

We will give you the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake not a outright lie.

I believe the title fight was offered to Eubank after Joe's opponent pulled out (was it Collins ?) .

He chose to take the money over the less rewarding one at light HW.

And he came to win, make no mistake about that.
Calzone boxed his ears off and almost had him going in that first rd.

Calzaghe was very good, but Sugar Sven Ottke would of taken that 0 in Germany.

I doubt he came to win, he was not even in that division so why would he want to win a title in it again.

Where are you going with this?

What point are you trying to make?

Yes, he lost to 2 people.

    3 straight losses.

He was a shell of the guy he'd once been when Joe fought him in 2008, which is why Joe wrote in his 2007 autobiography that he'd been shot since 2004.

The only fighters he could beat were lower level ones.

He was just shy of his 40th birthday with diminished reflexes.

A year after Joe beat him, he lost to Danny Green in a round.

Although Green was a decent fighter, guys like him and Johnson would have been lucky to have taken a round off of Roy, let alone have beaten him.

Yes, likewise, Joe would have been a very difficult match up for Andre Ward.

    An intriguing clash of styles.
