Nice post Griffo. Just on the highlighted - talking strictly power Spinks was a much much harder puncher than Marvin. He had genuine one punch knockout power in either hand as he showed on many an occasion. He could lay back and stuff around a bit tho and wasn't the offensive technician Marvin was i'd say. Marvin kept the pressure on more consistently than Mike too. When Mike landed a bomb tho, lookout.

    Spot on JT.

Hagler hit hard and set up and delivered his punches beautifully but Spinks could really, really hit hard at 175. Hagler had a great KO% due to the points you mention but he didn't have that destructive one punch power that Spinks did at 175 when he really landed it (the Marvin Johnson fight is a prime example of this)

The world hwt championship was always looked upon as the greatest prize in all of sport. Today it’s a joke.

Spinks one punch KO of Marvin Johnson is possibly the greatest single punch I ever witnessed live. A left uppercut/hook and Johnson was down and out.

Do you not think that Jab of Spinks had something to do with it?
For me it's among the greatest jabbing performances in history.

I love a great jab more than most. Its actually the main reason Holmes is amongst my ATF fighters.
That being said Dwight just didnt look right out of the gate. Just my opinion though

Same, on both counts. Love a jab, love Holmes.
Holmes is among my top 3 Fav HWs with Frazier and Patterson.
Again, I agree. I put it down to Spinks managing to control the distance perfectly, from his massive height advantage personally. I like Qawi lots, his style is a favourite of mine. But I think that Spinks just had an answer for anything he had that night though.
Well, you know what they say about opinions.
