For those who question Gvozdyk's courage.

Hot Rod had never been dropped or stopped (bogus KD against Browne obviously doesn't count)

Callum Johnson had never been dropped or stopped

Koelling had never been stopped and AFAIA had never been down albeit I could be wrong about that

Prieto had never been stopped and AFAIA had only been down once before and that was a questionable KD where his feet were totally squared up and a punch around the back of the head sent him over. That's the same Prieto who hurt Eleider Alvarez about 3 times and had him in desperate trouble in round 6.

Maderna had never been stopped. Granted he's a SMW though.

Alexander Johnson had never been stopped

Jeff Page had never been stopped albeit he was stopped again a year after Artur stopped him. He's the only one of the aforementioned who has ever been stopped by anyone other than Artur.

Tavoris Cloud had never been off his feet before and had only been stopped once on a corner retirement at the end of round 7 against Adonis Stevenson.

Rayco Saunders had only been stopped once in 45 fights, loss avenged.

And even the journeymen Billly Bailey and Gabriel Lecrosnier who Artur fought are pretty tough and have only been stopped 13 times in 110 combined fights (including their fights against Artur).

And Gvozdyk had obviously never been stopped before either but he displayed a granite chin tonight and fought so courageously against an absolute savage punching relentless monster.

I actually think Kovalev would wilt faster than Gvozdyk did.

Probably yes, because you can't even clinch him  (well, maybe only with a ref like today, who was eager to interfere as soon as Gvozdyk started to hold Artur). Beterbiev is so freakishly strong that he’s quite good at breaking from clinches and even hitting the opponent while doing it.

It breaks my heart that more fans don't appreciate the service Rayco Saunders provided for years, quietly, in the shadows. With the right promotional backing he could have been a serious contender, but he was dealt the hand he was dealt and decided to just be a professional and give prospects rounds for a living, over the course of a very respectable 15 year career...that nobody even knows about. Inside the fight game, he is very well regarded, and his opponents have always had glowing impressions of him (in particular his sneaky power, as well as his craftiness). So many fighters that went on to do big things owed a disproportionately large part of their development to Rayco. And since his ninth pro bout, a year after his debut - only two men (of 47!) - have stopped him: Anthony Sims Jr., and Beterbiev. Who, as of today, one might feel comfortable projecting to each be top 5 p4p within a year's time. :deal:

Well, on that note, I'm off to bed. Great fight. Both fighters fought well. The stronger puncher won.

(You know it is remarkable the number of times a fighter who has beaten another fighter in the amateurs replicates that in the pros. It's actually uncanny. Maybe it is the psychological edge.)

I like the respect and gentleman of this. Did Gvosdyk lose his killer instinct a bit?

Yes even John Scully said that Rayco is a tough SOB who can fight and how it was an impressive win for Beterbiev to beat someone of his calibre in just his second pro fight.

When Sims stopped Rayco as well I took note and I made sure I kept an eye on him since.

Beterbiev broke him down like I thought he would. Govdzyk boxed well in spots but seemed to lose his confidence as Beterbiev walked through his stuff and started touching that body.

I see CST80 threw one of his patented sissy fits, as he usually does when one of his man crushes is made to capitulate.

Hey who you gonna root for if ward comes out of retirement to fight Beterbiev?? I really, REALLY hope ward tries to do that. :) It will be fun watching ward get flatlined.

Ward knows a guy like Artur is a horrible style matchup for him. Say what you will about Ward but he picks his fights intelligently. Beterbiev is like the anti-Ward.

To me this fight wasn’t close. After the 4th round I don’t even know if I gave Gyvozdyk another round.

Gyvozdyk using Atlas was his downfall in the end.
