Again. Feels like it’s the 15th thread about this again. Just watched back Cheeseman Fitzgerald, the commentary is nothing short of an absolute disgrace. You’d think Cheeseman was a prime Floyd Mayweather the way they was going on. Yes Cheese suprised me as well, but was still getting walked down and did enough in the middle rounds to probably scrape a draw on my card, Fitz winning the last 3 rounds. Why don’t Sky like Fitz? Even by Hearns own mouth, he sells tickets, so what’s the problem? Two fights in a row now were you could safely say the commentary team certainly didn’t want Fitz to win. Last nights commentary was worse than Bellews when he commentated on Whyte Parker.
Eddie's interview afterwards looked like he was going to burst into tears. Ruined the fight big time, Fitz catches him with 3 shots and Egg got a little poke in Adam Smith "great exchange but sam egerton got the better of that one" Jesus
Happens literally everywhere. Some of the commentary for Wilder Fury was absolutely nauseating. We all see fights differently; commentators are going to do the same.
I get people see fights differently, but the commentary for that fight wasn’t even called fairly. So pro Cheeseman it was untrue. Genuinely can’t even tell Fitz is a Matchroom fighter. Says a lot when the most talked about thing on Twitter wasn’t the decision, but in fact the **** poor commentary.
I think the reasoning is that if Fitzgerald had lost, it's easier to justify making Folwer vs Fitzgerald again. It's a fairly big domestic fight and it'll sell well. Fitzgerald winning pushed Fowler down the pecking order a bit.. Fitzgerald has a few alternative options now he's won. They really want to make Fowler vs Fitzgerald and are desperate for Fowler to win. They've invested lots of time and effort in Fowler and he's Sky's 'chosen one' from that crop of Fitzgerald/Fowler/Cheeseman/Conway etc and they want to see a return. I think that's an oversight on their part because people don't seem to like Fowler at all. He rubs people up the wrong way, is totally insecure and has no charisma. Fitzgerald, by contrast, seems pretty likeable and I think could become pretty popular with some more marketing and promotion.
Tony, you are starting to become a parody of yourself. It's ok not to mention Fury at any given opportunity.
It’s not just Sky, BT have been the same too. I liked Macklin last night, I think that Adam Smith as sky sports head of boxing has a bit of a conflict of interest. He was terrible, he had clear favourites in every fight and must’ve said Bermondsey about 8 times in the first 3 rounds like that had anything to do with a great tactical fight that was going on.
Totally agree. Going into the fight I wasn't supporting one over the other, just wanted to see a really good, competitive fight (and I did). Just wish i watched it on mute.
I got wound up with the commentary several times throughout the evening. They blatantly ignore good work by one fighter and harp on about the other. Then, just to back it up they show the good work of the fella they’re backing in-between rounds. Them first few rounds of RDJ & Ritson were brilliant and back & forth but you’d think Ritson was winning them all according to Sky. You can tell they desperately want the revenue that can be created in Newcastle with Ritson.
Definitely. The narrative was definitely already set in that fight. £ signs in everyone’s eyes at the possibility of St James Park. Watching Hearn on IFL he said he will 1 million % be working with Robbie going forward though and that he thinks he should move up to 147.
Agree. They're determined to get that St. James' Park fight. I think it would be a great event in fairness so can totally understand why. They obviously want a fighter with a big football fan style following ala Hatton. They probably see Ritson as their best bet. Even Joshua doesn't have that (although, he's become such a big star it doesn't matter). I think that's why they've been talking about a big fight at Anfield but Callum Smith hasn't kicked on enough to get that sort of support either. I think Hearn would love to have Warrington in his stable. He'd really milk the Leeds United link.
The way Smith uses the nose piece on his microphone to give him a more nasal tone is absolutely nauseating. Worse commentator out there and id like to see him booo'd more regularly at pressers although these type of tactics had been going on since Sky took up boxing.
