I think prime Mike Tyson could have dominated the early 1970's heavyweight scene

I think a prime Tyson could have beaten the big 3. Ali, Frazier and Foreman. He certainly beats the likes of Norton, Quarry, Bonavena, Young, Ellis etc.

He could've, but it wouldn't be dominant. He'd struggle with the big 3, personally I'd pick him to lose to Foreman and FOTC Joe Frazier, but beat Ali in the 70s.

In fact there isn't a HW in history I'd pick to dominate that division

He was too fast for Foreman and would land clean counters in combinations. He'd land too much on Frazier and may even be able to keep Frazier down where Foreman couldn't due to the sharpness and accuracy of his punches. I think he'd decision Ali who'd give away too many rounds clinching.

He stops Quarry, Lyle, Bonavena, Chuvalo, Patterson, Ellis, Norton and Young.

I know you won't agree with me, but of the era we are talking about, I'm confident Tyson would beat Frazier, Norton, Lyle etc, but NOT Ali and Foreman.

I think he'd lose to the big 3 and think Young and Lyle upset him as well. Quarry is a live underdog.

SMOKIN' Joe Frazier would beat the living **** out of Tyson. Tear that mustard seed heart out of his chest and eat it.
Foreman whether 1973, 1990, 2019 bounces Tyson like all little guys. Tyson knew it. Stop bullshitting yrself.
As for Ali, he would have Tyson crying on rooneys shoulder after the press conference much less the fight.
Face it Tyson nuthuggers, when yr greatest win is a retired washed up Larry Holmes you be ****ed. Ludiquissss!!

its possible, he was very quick, good power, good defence. But that's a real badass group of boxers from the seventies. I think Foreman would make him his *****, Ali could beat him, Young could beat him, Norton, no way! Any of the rest could beat him. Nothings for sure here though.

Id favor Tyson over Ali, Frazier and might get foreman, maybe because of his defence and hand speed and I'm not sold on it. Tyson would knock out the rest, that being said I dont think anyone dominates the strongest crop of heavyweights.

Tyson never beat even one great Heavyweight anywhere near his prime. I'm not saying he couldnt beat some of those guys but it is a bit of wishful thinking to believe he runs the table. He's not tough enough.
Ali would pepper him similar to what Douglas did. Except Ali was much quicker than Buster. No way could Tyson absorb the punches Ali hit Frazier with in the FOTC.
Foreman? Slightly favor George. Bad style for Mike though he was better equipped than Frazier to have a decent shot.
Frazier? I would favor Mike based on styles but it's no forgone conclusion. If Frazier is still there after 3 rounds Tyson entourage would back the Bentley up.

Tyson wouldn't dominate the early 70's. But of course he would of been very successful as far as being top 4-5 heavyweights of that era. My problem with Tyson isn't in his physical abilities and his skill level. But his mental make up.
What would Tyson do facing a bigger bully with the perfect physicality to beat him in G.Foreman? How would he respond to the quite confidence of Prime J.Frazier? If The Holyfield fights showed one thing Tyson could be taken out of his game by a fighter that exudes confidence and had no fear of him.
How would he respond to the insanity of Ali. A fighter not only exuding confidence, but talking straight trash to him from the moment the fight was signed? Personally I don't think he has that mental toughness to deal with fighters like those 3. Especially with the skill level Ali,Frazier, and Foreman possessed.

He'd definitely be competitive, but I don't see him beating Ali until post Rumble, and he would not beat Foreman. I think he'd win a life and death fight with Frazier and would dominate the rest
