Holyfield had to fight real contenders at HW to get his shot.... shouldn't Usyk have to do the same?

Holyfield defended the CW title 6 times and unified the belts along the way....
then he had to get past James Tillis, Pinklon Thomas, Michael Dokes, Alex Stewart, along with a couple of lesser opponents before he ever got a shot at the HW crown, and all along people were doubting his ability at HW.

Why is Usyk given such star treatment by comparison? And then modern fans have the audacity to claim Usyk was better than Holy? Even at CW?

Does anyone older than 30 really believe that?

How is Usyk given such star treatment? Is he authorized to fight for the World Title at the HWD in his next fight after he beats Whiterspoon?

    Different eras man

Now we live in the era of the cash cow. Contenders wait for their turn to to get that payday

Which contender do you think would fight Usyk right now, a high risk low reward fighter ?

You are correct but in this era the WBO have a rule in place where a champion is allowed to move up a division and become the mandatory instantly.. Nothing wrong with him using the rule in his favor.

    This ^

    Crawford used it.

    BJS used it

Andrade was installed mandatory moving up to 160 for BJS title shot

Basically just a rule I guess good leverage

Usyk has the better resume at CW, that is what most people argue. Not that Usyk is a better boxer than Holyfield was.
And Usyk is guaranteed a shot at the HW title due to the WBO. Not because everyone just loves Usyk. Otherwise he would have to fight his way up the rankings like Holyfield did.

And what´s wrong with the idea of Usyk getting a title shot as soon as possible? He was the undisputed Cruiserweight champion, meaning he is one of the best boxers in the world. Don´t you want to see the best fighting the best?

Holyfield couldn't make use of the rule of the WBO that was still a minor belt at that time.
Also, Holy was a smallish cruiserweight, who needed time to adjust to the extremely fast added muscleweight before making his move.

Most cruisers today are natural Heavyweights boiling down to 200, but Holyfield was a smallish cruiser even in the 190 days, who had to become a Heavyweight by adding muscle. Grow as a human so to speak.

And yet, if Uysk took six fights to work his way into title contention, some people would accuse him of ducking the top names.

He's also much older than Holyfield who was in his mid-20s when he made the move up. He had time on his side.

But it's always good to see boxing fans put Uysk's name in the same conversation as Holyfield's. It's a fair comparison by the OP and can only be framed as a warranted compliment...

Theres two groups worth a damn at heavy

The champions plus Joshua (for now at least )

And youngsters like Dubois etc who arent ready

The back end of the top 10 is garbage

Yes and no. I'd prefer that he did, but that's the WBO rules.

OP is spot on and and futhermore, Usyk should honour Holyfield's legacy by taking a load of roids and ballooning in size and get a robbery draw decision in his favour like the first Lewis fight. Only that way can he be spoken of in the same sentence as Evan Field.

Basically, as is usual with Oakland's threads, he is just showing that he feels Wilder is threatened by Usyk.

Wilder earned his title shot by beating Jason Gavern of all people.

Usyk and Holyfield could have beat the WBO champ when Holy first moved up easily.
