Wow I missed the fight live but just saw it. Fantastic performance.

Beterbiev faced a champion in his prime. One of the best fighters in the world. And pushed him all over the ring. He blew that man up.

Personally I really don't rate Gassiev that highly. He is/was just slightly the best of a very poor bunch in a very weak division. That is until he faced Usyk.

There a have been a few better performances recently than Usky vs Gassiev.

Gassiev was never that good. Dude went life and death with a 40 year old Lebedev. Gvozdyk is levels above him.

It's actually a more impressive performance as Gvodzyk is a bit more than a bigger version of Arthur Abraham. Gassiev is a bit over rated, and limited, as Usyk showed us.

Are we forgetting that Lebedev never lost legitimately up until the Gassiev fight?
Also, he won quite clearly also. That shouldn't have been an SD, but an 8 to 4-ish UD with knockdown.

That's your opinion. Lots of people had Gassiev just scraping by. And who did Lebedev fight up until the Gassiev fight? The 60 year old ghost of Roy Jones and Huck? Sorry, I know y'all really want Gassiev to beat a great win for Usyk, but he's not that good.

I agree, Gassiev is massively over-rated. The guy was going life and death with a 40 year old lumpy potato-head Lebedev. People on here just want to make Gassiev something that he is not so they can believe that Usyk is a God to them. Don't get me wrong, Usyk was by the best of all the cruiser-weights, and he beat them all in their own home countries (bravo Usyk!), but lets be real, the whole division was limp as a soggy biscuit. Usyk being a true world class talent, mopped it up as anyone at his level would do. It's just a shame that the division was so weak when he was there. It was basically ripe for the picking with no real competition.

Now, that Usyk is in the heavy-weight division, thankfully there is competition for him and plenty of it too. If he were to do here what he did at CW then he will be coming into the ATG conversation.

I think Gassiev gets very underrated around here while Gvozdyk gets overrated.

Lebadev was just 37 and still very game. Gassiev was young and won fairly close but clear imo. He showed a lot of range against Doritcos and finished him brutally.
I think its fair to say that Lebadev and Dorticos are a better pair of wins than 41 Stevenson and Chilemba who is 1-5 in his last 6 fights.

He had a string of decent opponents troughout his career who turned out to be less than stellar after they fought Leb, I give you that. But he was the consensus #1 in the division for some time. Also, I rate old RJJ as his weakest opponent since his record building stage.

But opinions differ. I rate Gassiev and hope he returns despite his body falling apart.

Disagree Dino. From my eyetest Gvozdyk is a p4p talent, I've always said this. @CST80 can back me up on this, I'm not just trying to fanboy Beterbiev. As for Gassiev, even prior to the Usyk fight I said he's overrated, so I'm consistent in my views.

Lebedev was the same age as GGG is now when Gassiev beat him only he'd had 12 less pro fights and I don't think his amateur career whilst likely extensive was anywhere near as extensive as GGG's was and he was coming off one of his best wins, the two round blow out of IBF champ Victor Ramirez WBA-IBF unification match up in which he looked excellent, going into that fight.

Then after Gassiev beat Lebedev he KO'd the teak-tough former IBF and WBC champ Wlod in 3 rounds in his next fight who had never been stopped before or since.

And then in his next fight he KO'd the savage punching two-time CW champ Dorticos, a fight in which he not only demonstrated his fearsome power once again (both Arreola and Afolabi say Gassiev is the hardest puncher they've shared a ring with), but also impressive hitherto unseen boxing ability. In fact, he did a much better job outboxing Dorticos than the heavily hyped by many Floyd-esque/Mayweather Gym slickster Andrew Tabiti did who instead of taking over the division with his slickness and athleticism like many had predicted got stretched out cold on his back in HL reel fashion from a single right hand bomb from the Cuban lol.

Gassiev doesn't beat Briedis and probably would have lost to Hunter as well. And you can repeat CW being weak as much as you want but nobody is going to believe it.

Cruiser-weight was as weak then as it is now. One of the worst divisions right now.

Not too worry, if Usyk repeats at HW what he did at CW then nobody will deny him an ATG standing.

His place at CW is already set.
