Funny overhyped fighters in retrospect.

You have your obvious ones like Broner or David Price.

One of my favourites was Odlanier Solis, he had a very verbal fanbase going into the Vitali fight who swore blind that Vitali was scared and had been ducking Solis, and would be schooled when they met.

Vitali ruined him. I loved it.

Solis was doing fine, winning even, until he twisted his knee. No schooling. It was a legitimate knockdown though.

Is it a self inflicted knee twist when the punch that landed on you makes you twist it??

Solis was a funny one indeed. His manager made it even better. I think it´s the same cray **** who handles Yildirim. Regardless, he stated that he would be done with the heavyweight division if Solis lost. Made a big deal of it. Well, Solis got knocked down and injured himself in the progress. (The manager refused to accept it as a legitimate loss)
The bandwagon kept rolling until Tony Thompson  The waggon did loose a few passengers over the years due to inactivity, but that was the end of the road for them.

    Damn, I really miss Thompson.

Solis was doing fine, but you can´t really say he was winning. He didn’t even make it out of the first round.

Bob Arum did a gr8 Hype job on Margarito. World's most dangerous, Floyd wants no part. Rito through translators :Why? doesn't anyone want to fight me?"

Clottey was handling him, then some injury occurred and allowed Rito to throw everything, still didn't hurt CLottey.
Cintron always found a crazy way to lose, Rito's win no different.
Paul Williams was a good fight, but Paul never went on to prove he could be a next level fighter.

After Cotto in 2008 he would never win a major fight.

Just a joy to watch a slightly past it- Mosley man handle the bigger guy. He was never dangerous. Never had 1 punch power. No defense, not very skilled, just a work horse with a great big promoter. Couldn't even bruise Cotto in 2nd fight, what happened to all that power? Thx Pac for busting him up.

Malcolm Tan The Show Stopper- I think he was a Dan Goosen fighter. I bought into the hype! Bright personality, had a nice style, could box & a bit of power. I think either Showtime and or ESPN was pushing him, but he proved he wan't a show stopper, so he got his show stopped.

David Haye was hyped into the sky for some reason despite the many signs him being far from what he was hyped up to be.
And it also seemed like everything was done to keep the hype up at the time. All footage him getting stunned and dropped at cruiser got removed from youtube and such. When only scraping by Valuev (who shouldn't even have the belt) in a stinker, claims were made it was "the only way to beat the giant" while others had already proven that certainly wasn't the case, and him being the "first to wobble the giant", which was also bull.
The WBA titledefences were really bottom of the barrel crap, and then when the Klitschko fight finally happened after a couple of pullouts, he again stunk out the place in some lame attempt to get point deductions or a DQ by constantly flopping to the canvas.

Who is the guy that Crawford beat to become undisputed, was it Indongo?Despite his record he seemed to have a short lived hype. Ricky Burns takes it for me lol.
One of my favourite fighters was Crolla but I was never under any illusions about him.

This and that temple shot Vitali caught him with is really what sealed the deal.

Bit of lower key one but Larry Olumbamiwo. I remember the sky team laughably building him up before he was disposed of by John McDermott.

Solis was an incredible waste of talent. I sometimes ask myself how sensational his flop would have been if he was British....we would never hear the end of it!!
