What is the minimum amount of time a person can train and be ready for their first amateur fight ?

Real life examples too if you know any.

 

Tbh mate if your training for an amateur fight then I'd say doing the bare minimum isn't the way to go about it

 

a years worth of training dude, with lots of road work inbetween classes. you need to be as a fit fiddle even for 3rounds.

 

Would depend on your condition before you started.

 

Depends on the person. Some are quick learners and pick it up faster than others but then there are slow learners who may have a higher ceiling than the fast learners. And thennthere are the stone cold savants of the world, who were basically born to box. Bare minimum fitness requirements should be: able to spar 2x the amount of rounds in an AM fight which, so at least 6 rounds, your shoulder strength and endurance is huge, be able to run 5-6 mikes without taking a ride in an ambulance. I'd say generally someone should be boxing for 1-2 years first before their 1st official AM match with plenty of sparring with plenty different fighters and plenty of smokers which generally aren't considered official. Its the regional, state, national and international tournaments that are generally official. Before you hit open class in the am system - in America - you need 10 fights in the novice class before you can move up. Amateur boxing is all about learning and improving. Your record isnt nearly as important in the AMs as it is in the pros. Dont rush it, thats the worst thing you can do. Develop your style and fundamentals way before you actually apply for a license and enter a tournament, if.you rush it and develop bad habits good cgsnce they will be with you for your entire career. And always remember - safety is paramount. If you want to be competitive your gonna have to dedicate almost your whole life to boxing and only boxing unless your a savant.

 

4-8 months is usually all that you need.

 

Will 6 months be enough to prepare for the first fight ?

 

1 year of solid commitment if you want to WIN.

6 months if you just want an experience

 

what about in between that, 9 months ?

 

I used to fight as a amateur many years ago now, probably the best tip I can give you is remember what you learn while sparring in the gym, and apply what you learn in your first fight.

I know that might sounds simple, but a very large amount, possibly most of the early fights I watched and took part in people throw what they have learned out the window and try and KO their opponent in the first round, or two using wild amateurish swings and leaving themselves open to jabs and straight rights.

Also since a lot of people go for the KO early, they are usually gassed out in second and third round, I’ve seen fights stopped because they punch themselves out in the first round. Take advantage of this and pace yourself in the first round. You’ll be shocked how tiring a fight is, far more so than sparring.

I know this might come across as a general tactic, but I found parrying and countering with the jab, broke their confidence in their ability in the first round.

one last thing, listen to your corner to what you are doing wrong, literally won me one of my early fights that I certainly would of lost otherwise.
