For the sake of argument let's just say Golata had his head on strait..wasnt a nut bag. How far could he have gone? Would the Tyson and Lewis fights ended differently? Discuss
Both losses occurs differently. Same result though. He still suffers whatever injury from Tyson & Lennox was on his game that night, nothing different happens. With a stable head against Bowe, he manages to avoid the nut combos & wins a unanimous decision.
Not in the same class as Lewis, Holyfield or Byrd, but very good nonetheless. The Golata that fought Bowe and Byrd was not the same as the one who fought Tyson and Lewis.
That was the bizarre thing...actually, the fact that Bowe showed up shot already to the Golota fights (under the age of 30) is even more bizarre. Golota was far from a great or even really good fighter, Bowe was just finished by the time he fought him. As Futch intimated, Bowe struggled to care during training for the first Golota fight, and even further proof of his being finished is the fact that he DID train for the second one and got beat badly again.
Byrd only managed a draw against the nutbar version of Golota, who was 5 or 6 years past his peak. Lewis was Golota‘s next fight, after Bowe II. A mentally stable Golota would have taken the Win against Bowe and made a much better fight of both Lewis and Tyson, in my opinion.
After he had just mugged Bowe in the first fight, I asked a very knowledgeable boxing man about the heavyweight division and he said, that dam Golota may be the best heavy out there, but he turned out to be as unstable as an earthquake fault
Golota with his head on straight would do better but still lose to guys like Tyson and Lewis. His issue in those fights had more to do with them being much better fights than his mental condition. His mentality gave them easy nights, but their skills and physical advantages were more than enough to beat him regardless.
Golata's problem is defense. Head on straight does not come into play until that defense gets drastically improved upon. Walking into the punchers and hitters is the worst thing a Golata can do.
