Prime Iron Mike Tyson against the 1960's heavyweights how would Mike have fared?

What would be Mike`s chances v 1960`s heavyweights?

 

I'd say he does pretty well. I think Liston and Ali beat him. I think Williams pulls an upset. I think he does well against everyone else. He beats Machen much easier than Liston did.

 

The only ones I give a chance are Liston and Ali.

 

As above, he stops Patterson and Ingo as well as Cooper, Doug Jones, Terrell, William s, Folley, Mildenberger, Machen.
By 1960 Liston was probably just past his very best but still good enough to take out most contender of the time. Prime Tyson v Liston?
I'll go with a hard Ruddock type fight, both men slugging, Liston getting dropped but coming back to hurt Tyson. I have a feeling that Sonny and Tyson see the end and Tyson gets a slim majority win.
Then Mike faces a young Ali.
Muhammed does everything he's good at, and, frustrates the hell out of him before stopping him in 13.

 

I see Iron Mike Tyson destroying everyone in his path, like a tornado would. He stops Henry Cooper, easy like Ingo did in 1956, round 1, he batters Doug Jones, KO 3, he dismantles Zora Folley, TKO 3, runs roughshod over Karl Mildenberger, KO 6, in Frankfurt Germany. The Ernie Terrell fight would resemble his triumph over Tony TNT Tucker, in 1987. Ernie would attempt to wrestle Mike, with his long arms, but Tyson abuses his body, to win a unanimous decision over Terrell. He would kayo Eddie Machen, round 4, have a slug out with Cleveland Williams, before stopping the Big Cat, in round 6. He then stops Oscar Bonavena, round 9, chops up Jerry Quarry, TKO3. He beats former champ, Floyd Patterson, TKO 6. He uses George Chuvalo as a punching bag for 15 rounds, Chuvalo has never been knocked off his feet in his career. He wipes out Thad Spencer, KO 4, beats up blubbery Buster Mathis, TKO 7, stops Jimmy Ellis, round 5. stops Joe Frazier, round 10. The fighters that defeat him are a prime Muhammad Ali, TKO 11, as Ali dances non stop, no Rope A Dope, gets in Mike's head, drops him, and forces Kevin Rooney, to throw in the towel, Tyson is extremely exhausted. Iron Mike gets stopped by one Charles Sonny Liston, he runs into Liston's well documented 14 inch fist in round 8. He also gets stopped by the 1968 Gold medalist George Foreman, in round 4, Archie Moore and D. Sadler have George well prepared for this fight.

 

Williams wouldn`t have been able to land on a prime Tyson.

 

Liston vs. Tyson might rank among the most difficult historical match-ups to get a bead on, as far as reaching any consensus of critical analysis (free of the flotsam & jetsam of surreptitious agenda-driven biases - ie, people being either fans or haters of Mike's to irrational horse-blinder extremes, or conversely being fans or haters of Sonny's - or, more commonly, vicariously, of Muhammad's ...and logical red herrings, ie reductive arguments regarding either being merely a "bully that crumbles when somebody flips the intimidation script on them", which is overblown in both their cases and would cancel one another out here anyway, or that Liston already destroyed a Tyson prototype in Patterson, falsely equivalent for the dual reason of post-Ingo Floyd being a lot more fragile than a prime Kid Dynamite, as well as having nothing even close to his power... and there is the somehow, incredibly, ongoing controversy regarding the "phantom" anchor punch, which issue should long since have been put to bed. Liston stayed down, sure, that much was elective, but he was dropped legitimately by a glancing short right from Ali, that much isn't even up for debate anymore...which means the door is open to him being dropped by a patented uppercut from the much faster and more powerful prime Tyson, and not having a choice in the matter of getting up...but then, one might argue, that wasn't prime Liston, even if it was so shortly removed from his brief championship run)

There's just so much baggage and so many questions and stipulating factors with both...and so much bias.

Tyson wasn`t in his prime v Ruddock though.

 

Williams? How? Not much defense and not much of a chin. That combination can never ever spell succes against prime MIke. It would be entertaining as long as it lasted and Williams might get some good shots in, but in no way do I see him being victorious.

 

Liston, Ali and perhaps Frazier would probably be tricky opponents. Foreman would be too young and green at that stage.

 

I take Liston over Mike, any time from right before his demolition of Patterson (I) to roughly preceding the first Ali fight. Liston had too good and persistent a jab, and would probably have seen and acted upon Mike's being wide open coming in.

Ali would have boxed Mike's ears off, staggered him multiple times...either Mike would just quit or the fight would be a lopsided decision.

In the late 60s Joe might have got knocked down, but would have taken Mike out in the late rounds.

I think he loses to Ali by UD

Liston would have a puncher's chance. The key would be whether Tyson can consistently slip the Liston Jab. If so, he could hurt Liston at mid distance.

He would destroy Patterson in one round.

Ingo would be kod,

Frazier would be kod

 

A Toxic, no end in sight sort of discussion to be sure. Usually anything involving tyson and Liston is bound to be, so combining the two of them in a thread is like being bitten by 2 different venomous snakes.

As for the thread, anything is possible. Tyson might clear out the division, he might have his douglas moment and then his career goes on a downward spiral. Hard to tell, but very few fighters in the 60's would last long.
