Hello boys, taking the missus her first fight Saturday, working it round weekend in London. My first time at the 02, whats it like for a bevy there before/after? Is it worth booking a private cab after the fight to get out of there quicker? What time do you reckon Taylor's rong walk will be? Nice one lads!
I get a boat out of there if I can. Drinks wise it's pretty sterile inside so I prefer to have a few drinks somewhere else and then head over and into the actual arena nearer fight time. Have a good 'un!
Yes book a boat in advance and you will be in the West End in 20 minutes. Alcohol in London is hard to avoid and arenas do charge high prices but the purpose of your visit to the O2 is to watch Josh Taylor win the Muhammed Ali trophy and to see Big Dave Price knock out Pudding Chisora. Do all you drinking during the Burns v Selby stinker and enjoy your evening mate.
Where are you staying? Not the worst idea to just go to the bus stops after the fight and you’ll get a seat and a relatively comfortable 20 minute journey into Waterloo.
If you want to grab a drink/pub grub beforehand there’s a nice pub called the pilot about 5 mins walk away that most don’t know about (used to live in the new build flats next to the arena). The bars inside are pretty sterile. Not sure if the Thames clipper will be running post fight but good for heading down there from central. Get to see a few sights along the way. Depending on the weather there is an awesome and little known rooftop bar across the river at Canary Wharf. It’s on top of the Novotel. Has the best view of London but is pricey. Think it’s called bokan. Where are you staying? The tube will be horrendous after so either check the Thames clipper timetable or jump on the bus as cutthroat suggests. Personally wouldn’t bother with a cab unless you’re minted and don’t mind spunking a fortune. Presumably you’re Scottish though and quite tight? Ha.
Last time I went I got the cable cars over the river to the arena - that was quite nice Getting out afterwards is horrendous, an Uber back to the Travelodge Docklands was only £13 so not as bad as some make out, your best wandering out to the main road as its nigh on impossible for any vehicles to get in/out after the event finishes Plenty of places to eat/drink in there before hand, recommend booking before though if you want food. Watch what you drink though, too many means a few trips to the toilets/drug den , I'd probably recommend pissing yourself rather than having to negotiate round the sniffing squad on your way in.
Never had a problem getting a tube after the boxing, always found it reasonably quick. Usually stay around Canary Wharf, so have a few beers around there before heading to o2.
This. Always see a big song and dance on here about getting away. Never had a problem getting straight out of there on the tube. It’s not great for drinking inside the o2, there’s a slug and lettuce or whatever in there and one or two others but they’re rammed. You’re best having a drink a few tube stops away and then shooting straight in. You need to download an app called “The o2” and register now before you go. Once inside the arena you can then preorder food and drinks to whatever station is closest to your seating. The queuing otherwise is a joke. Have a good one.
Never had a problem? The queues are mad unless you wait for a bit for it to quieten down. Hated living around there.
Don’t bother booking a cab afterwards, either get the boat or shoot off early and just embrace the slow waddle with the crowds back to the station. I’d go to a local pub before and get started there, when I say local I mean a few tube stops away. It’s all chains at the o2 and you’ll get a much better drinks selection in a local pub. but inside the venue the do have plenty of small bars and people who don’t know usually just go to the first one they see so the queues can get insane crossing paths with each other. try the other levels for less busy bars as it’ll be worth it, also try hanging around the ground floor bars as you’ll probably bump into the odd boxer beer selection last time I was there was not great, fosters and strong bow £6 a pint, not sure if they’ve changed sponsors or prices since then be good if you report back and let us know what you think? have a great night oh and don’t do what my mate did and go for a wee just before a fight starts, he went for one during the Haye vs maccarinelli fight and when he came back it was already over
Last time I went to a Chisora fight it was terrible getting there, I asked directions and was told follow the crowd, so I did and ended up in tesco!!
Nice one for all the replys lad, appriciate it. Big help. I was staying in docklands but there dosent sees that much round there after the fight so I'm staying near tower bridge now, bit of an inbetween with all the main tourist parts etc as I'm there for a couple of days. A few people have told me about the pilot pub ill shoot down there definatly. I'll let you know how it goes boys!
