Byrd beat Vitali, Tua and Holyfield while Lewis was still active. He was far from an non-entity in the Lewis era. Byrd would have been Lewis' biggest challenge of the 2000s had they fought. Perhaps even his toughest opponent of his career. Byrd would have always given Holyfield problems and was a much better boxer than a past-it Tyson. Only Vitali was arguably tougher for Lewis than Byrd, but then again styles make fights. and Byrd would have presented Lewis with a completely different set of problems.
Byrd did the weight cut wrong against George. The commission told him after the fight that they should not have sanctioned him. He was a ghost that evening. Byrd's was allergic to a lot of foods as well and this hurt his cardio . Given this, and how undersized he was at heavyweight, it is clear that the man possessed incredible ability considering what he achieved.
No silly goose american beat them cause the american won the match ..when he made the other guy your hero QUIT
That run between Wlad K I & II was pretty nice. Throw in the stoppage victory (just on paper, regardless of asterisks) over the other K bro, as well as some tertiary padding like Cooper, Purritty, unbeaten Castillo...and yeah, he put together a nice CV for such a drastically undersized modern heavy.
Regarding the Ike loss. Byrd improved after that bout. As Kellerman said, he started avoiding the ropes. It's not like the loss counts against Byrd anyway. Ike was the best heavyweight in the world at the time. The fight was close and Byrd actually hurt Ike to the body.
Troll post. Ike ran through Byrd. Every round from the second on got worse and worse for Byrd. He was clearly out of his depth in a fight that wasn't even remotely close.
Watch the fight back. Ike admitted afterwards that Byrd hurt him to the body. He also said that Byrd would beat most of the division. The improved version of Byrd that fought in 2001 and 2002 would have given Ike a lot of problems.
Wlad destroyed him twice and Vitali was basically shutting him out until he was injured. not sure how shitting on Byrd devalues them.
You'd probably pay to watch Byrd v Johnson and then bore us all by telling us what an exciting fight it was!
