The timing of the event wasnt controversial. Leonard had a detached retina and was forced to retired. He briefly came back and looked like crap so retired again. Rewriting that to say Hagler was shot (nobody said that until after he got outboxed by a welterweight who had one fight in the last five years and looked like **** in it) is ridiculous. Painting an active, dominant middleweight champion as the underdog going into a fight with Leonard is a joke, its beyond monday morning quarterbacking. Hagler looked way better in his last fight against a much more threatening opponent than Leonard did in his last fight three years earlier against an average opponent at best. Gift decision my ass and none of the ridiculous videos you post will change the decision nor the fact that most think Leonard won. Like I said before, Hagler has nobody but himself to blame he fought a terrible fight. Same thing he did with Antuofermo, same thing he did with Duran. Rather than just do what he did best he acted like he had to prove something and he ended paying the price for it.

forced to retire? what was he doing boxing at age 40???

was he forced to UNretire four times? I dont recall his Doctor telling him to stay retired. In fact, he was given the okay by his Doctor to fight

if all opponents previous to Mugabi were so average (including Hearns & Hamsho) then leonard should have exposed him there an then in 1982 instead of inviting him all the way to Baltimore Civic Center, and in front of a live audience, back out a fight leonard himself built up

BTW, what was Ray doing in the ring with someone named Kevin Howard in 1984? I thought you said he was forced into retirement?

and worse, why did he immediately go back to retirement?

    The film
hw is the film ridiculous? it is actual footage!

it does not conceal nor resorts to deception

In fact, it does just the opposite so how can a film be deceptive if it slows down the action to give viewers a clearer look at what landed and what didnt, what was blocked, what was a low blow, and which were a glancing blows?

I've asked you several times but each time you pass on commenting

I myself am grateful for the efforts someone went through to go frame by frame but maybe you just didnt like the results

and I wouldnt either had I mistakenly thought for the last 32 years that Leonard won a historic bout, then I went out a bragged about it to everyone. It would make me look bad!

btw, the only reason I went thru the film round by round was because the decision was so controversial that I had to know: was I right in pegging Hagler as the true winner

    and was he robbed?

the answer to both questions is yes

That day before weigh ins and day of weigh ins completely change hypotheticals. For example a Featherweight of today would be better off matched against a lightweight of years ago. But it seems 10-15 extra lbs among small guys is only a factor when convenient.

My views on Bernard Hopkins will probably be seen as strange.

Beats Monzon, LaMotta, Steele, Tiger and Hagler
But loses to Hearns, Robinson and McCallum

I find it very strange that you don’t have him 8-0...how disappointed your grandfather must be (or your dad? I can’t remember). Don’t be that guy

He probably would be, and yes it's my grandfather. He loved Hopkins so much that everytime I came around his house before he fell ill he told me to watch Hopkins vs Tito with him.

He loved it when I told him that I thought Bernard would beat Monzon and Hagler.
I've concluded that McCallum and Hearns beat him since he passed tho

I’m sure someone started a thread on it years ago (might have even been me, I honestly can’t remember):eusa_doh:but in my opinion old George Foreman from the early 1990s would have beaten the young 1970s Foreman.

No one who knows the sport can look at Hagler Leonard and determine anyone was “robbed”. It was a close fight between two very different styles of fighter. The quick moving smart boxer got the nod. It’s been repeated in boxing history forever.

My opinions are based upon 45 years of study and close proximity to the sport. You? You prefer spouting that one armed hwts are the best ever.....FANBOY level stuff.
