Seemed like old Mia was gassed, let Askren take him down and reversed everything and made Askren look like a rookie, Ben goes for it again in the 3rd and Mia owned the idiot
That was a fun one while it lasted. Maia is increasing his legacy with each passing outing. Very strong case for being the best fighter to have never tasted gold in UFC history. Not sure where Askren goes from here but there's still some good fights for him if he wants them. Maia called out Diego Sanchez so looks like he's chasing legacy fights at this stage. Knows his limits against the top dogs.
was great to see. a big mouth like Askren ko'd then passed out in back to back fights is always fun..
Seems a lifetime ago now but anyone remember the hype about this guy when he came to the UFC? Boring fighter anyway and just shows the only time some can be humble is when they’ve had their ass kicked. Khabib is the very opposite of this.
Askren was always mediocre at best. Who else got a laugh out of how awful his stand up was in the 1st round constantly getting rocked by average well past it Maia?
Punch drunk Diego would be a better match up for Askren, pretty much everybody else on the roster beats Askren easily. At this stage I like Sanchez to stop Askren inside 2
I don't think Askren is that bent of shape over losses. He's definitely an adherent to Stoicism. Ultimately while Askren is still a solid specialist fighter I think the game moved past him and he probably isnt the same fighter he was in 2013-2014. Also there doesn't appear to be any beef between him and Maia.
Yeah. Fat chance of that happening now. But as I said there's still some good fights for him and he can maybe get a decent streak going if he's up to it. Definitely not close to being the worst in the division as someone known to post hyperbolic nonsense has suggested in this thread.
I never said he was the worst but the fact is he has always been mediocre and there's only a couple of guys he can beat in the UFC as the game has well and truly past him by. He has refused to take advantage of the quality sparring on offer at Roofus sports, instead choosing to isolate himself which has hampered any improvement in his striking which is easily the worst in the division and possibly in the whole UFC,he actually makes Jake Shields look like Bruce Lee in comparison lol
Expected a snooze fest but it was a decent enough fight. Maia was landing some great shots that had Askren rocked and definitely had his number on the ground. Askren looked poor. 1-2 in the UFC and his win was a questionable one. Lawler v Askren 2 is the fight to make.
Askren can wrestle that's it. He thought he could get by due to his admittedly strong wrestling. He cannot. His game is just not well rounded enough for today's UFC. He has too many holes in his overall game.
