It was a great performance in the sense that Kovalev is at the end of his career and Yarde was a young upcoming fighter. However, Yarde is still unproven in the winning column as he’s still only faced Kovalev at true world level.

I’m not hating on Yarde, but Clev was more riven at the time of his loss to Kovalev as was various other fighters, hopefully Yarde goes on to big things.

    Based on what?

Yarde has yet to get a W over a top fighter, if he goes on to be a champion, have a dominant run etc then fair play and the victory for Kovalev will be enhanced.

However he could lose his next fight and retire, we don’t know.

Based on giving Kovalev a much harder fight than most of his other opponents including Hopkins and Pascal.

He’ll get some credit, but Kovalev has definitely seen better days and Canelo despite the size difference is better than most of the guys at 175 and Canelo is also the more experienced than Kovalev.

In my opinion this is Canelo’s fight to lose.

The same applies to Ward Kovalev II.

    Definitely.

Kovalev is arguably the best LHW in the world and without doubt a top 3 LHW in the world behind only Beterbiev and Bivol.

Canelo is arguably the best MW in the world depending on how you view his wins over Golovkin, but he's without a doubt top 2 in the division and the current champion.

So a man who is certainly a top 2 MW jumping up 2 classes to beat a man who is certainly a top 3 LHW, that deserves huge credit.

Me personally I don't think he proved himself better than GGG, I can live with the decision but I don't think he's the best MW in the world after those two fights. So for someone who I don't even see as the best MW right now, to beat someone who I think is the 3rd best LHW, as I said I'll be lauding him with praise.

Age aside, I expect Kovalev to knock Alvarez out. The two stoppage losses aside, I expect Kovalev to knock Alvarez out. The fact I think Beterbiev knocks out Kovalev aside, I expect Kovalev to knock Alvarez out.

If he does this, he isn't the best LHW, but he's without doubt one of the most proven p4p boxers today.

No Yarde is not one of his best victories.

The following are without doubt superior, and will remain that way unless Yarde actually achieves some thing in the division.

Ward (I scored it to Sergey)
    Hopkins
    Pascal
    Alvarez
    Cleverly
    Chilemba
    Campillo

I'd argue Yarde is in the vicinity of: Shabransky, Caparello, Agnew, Sillah, White, Mikhalkin.

It's another example of an guy with a good record who hasn't actually achieved anything yet. Yarde hasn't even proved himself at domestic level yet. He skipped the british/commonwealth/european route and went straight in pursuit of a mandatory.

Yarde is of a similar level to Buatsi a well hyped prospect.

Yarde is not one of the top 2 victories of Kovalev's career.

Well ask yourself why Canelo chose Kovalev over Bieterbiev or Bivol. The same reason why he chose rocky fielding for super middleweight.

Kovalev and rocky fielding are two different boxers with different resumes and statuses

Ask yourself why pac chose. Thurman instead of Crawford or Spence

Pac fans use the logic that pac beat the welterweight with the best resume despite him looking like bad with lopez and being inactive

Same logic can be applied here. Canelo is fighting a light heavyweight with the best resume at 175 despite the aging factor and looking like crap with yarde..

Basically just applying the same logic and seeing who keeps the same energy and who dosent

Easy call. Kova is the more accomplished and bigger name. And let's be honest had Canelo picked one of those two some of you would be complaining that Canelo did no pick Kovalev.

How many hard rounds did he have against Pascal/Hopkins?

The reason I believe Canelo doesn't stop some of his opponents is for the reason I mentioned in my thread about opponents fighting timidly and less offensive. In other words they fight to survive and its difficult KO a fighter who's main purpose is not to hurt you but to not get KO.

It happened with Cotto, Lara, JCCjr and Tina degrees Golovkin which the 12th round of their rematch is a perfect example of it.

Had these fighters opted to sit down on their punches and fought as they normally do Canelo would have a higher chance at scoring the KO, tis is the sport of boxing.

With that said, I'm not sure Canelo's power will be effective at 175, but if he can carry his power up and Kovalev is his usual aggressive self I can see Canelo having a chance at scoring a KO.
