Interesting how he fought almost everyone else ... while Sam was past his best days he was still laying guys out in 1917, 1918, 1919 ... wonder why Greb did not take him on ?
I dont think Harry ducked anyone,at the end of his series with Tunney he said" I wont fight you again Gene ,youre getting too big and too tough ",but that was after all their wars. Langford and Greb did overlap a bit but Sam's eyes were gone by then ,it just didnt happen.imo.
Why would you think that because the fight didn't happen, it was Greb who ducked Langford? Why wouldn't you wonder if Langford ducked Greb?

I don't think Greb ducked him. Greb seemed willing to fight anyone .. I'm just curious if there is a history of why ... most likely it was the huge age difference because when they fought on the same card for Dempsey Miske Langford was north of forty and that was in 1920 .. I don't see a half blind 38 - 40 year old Langford having much of a shot .. prime for prime a different equation all together.
If you ever have to ask "Did Greb duck" then the answer is no. I believe once Greb was finally coming into his own around 1918-1919 that Langford had already fallen out of his prime. Greb always had difficulties getting the heavyweights to fight him
Kind of reminds me of questioning why a Sugar Ray Robinson who had been fighting at 135 a year earlier wasnt fighting light heavyweights. A great fighter with a ridiculously deep resume doesnt have every single name from every single weight division on said resume so the onus had to be on him as to why he missed out on this fight or that? There isnt a single fighter in history who fought everybody. Greb is proof of that considering the depth of his resume. How someone arrives at the question of whether or not he ducked a half blind overweight fighter relegated to the chitlin circuit just as Greb became a contender is a mystery to me. Any time you ask whether or not fighter A. ducked fighter B. you need to start with a promoter that actually tried to make that match. Ive never seen it so I'll just sit here and wait until someone brings that up. Contrary to the rather asinine belief that fighters like Robinson and Greb have the responsibility of going out matchmaking and promoting fights the reality is that somebody somewhere has to have an interest in that match in addition to the motivation to put up the money and effort to make it. Its a long winding road to get from the genesis of a promoter trying to make a match to the conclusion that fighter A ducked fighter B. When you start at the conclusion i.e. Greb and Robinson's records are so great why didnt they fight even more great fighters, it says more about just how impressive they were than about them supposedly ducking opponents.
