Im one that finds it somewhat detestable that one would say he quit. Guys a warrior and went out like one, imo.

....

Now... a besides the point pondering of mine.

I got the sense there was some anger over people saying he quit, moreso than say, that AJ quit, which everyone seems entirely fine with saying, when I guess I dont get the huge huge seperation of difference between why people would call AJ a quitter that lacks heart, but then get mad over peopel saying that Gvod had a will related implosion.

Idk... like I said, its besides the point... I just dont quite get the uproar about calling him a quitter from a community that is always hyper about labeling people quitters.

 

Because you could tell from the time of the first KD on, AJ really didn't want to be in there, wasn't trying to win, and mainly kicking it on the backfoot and looking clueless. Then every time after he got dropped late, he'd get up with a "why me?" look on his face, with zero confidence, with a look in his eyes to the ref of, "please get me out of this." And this is against a not all that heavy handed chubby guy. Who while I fully believed he was a bad style clash for AJ and that he'd beat him. The optics were even far worse than I thought they'd be.

Whereas in the 10th round against the most feared and monstrous puncher in the division, Gvozdyk kept getting back up after taking bomb after bomb and was willing to go until he got carried out on a stretcher if need be.

I dont know man. AJ fired back plenty of times on Ruiz after the knockdowns. In fact, it was his aggression that played a big part in his downfall.

The whole looking to the ref to get him out of there... ya, I dont see it. I just see a guy getting his ass kicked in front of the world and looking that he knows hes going to lose, but willing to follow that path to its end.

Wasnt trying to win? His last two knockdowns came center ring, the last one was him getting interrupted while trying to work offense. Kinda seems like people are acting like he was pulling a Cotto or Thurman in there and looking to survive. He was center ring trying to establish himself while exhausted and overmatched.


Eh. Ya I dont see it.

Oh well. It is what it is I guess. I'll always think fans are way too hyper about calling into question fightere hearts simply because the fighter doesnt act or look how they think they should, meanwhile the fighter is ultimately still willing to go out on their shield.

 

It doesn't bother me that AJ mentally quit. It is what it is. I don't think that's the worst think a fighter can do. Just explaining why I think that perception is out there and applicable to AJ as opposed to it not applying to Gvozdyk. Sure, he was throwing back, and at times with conviction, it's almost as if his mind was at war with him, he vacillated from round to round, sometimes within the round itself. If you put yourself in his mindset, how overwhelmed do you think he had to be? He knew he was getting his ass kicked and beaten up by a blubbery midget for HW, and how badly this had to look especially in his international debut. It had to be mentally and emotionally demoralizing to him as it was happening. He was having fight or flight responses throughout. Whereas I didn't see anything other than, damn... I might get KO'd next round, look on Gvozdyk's face going into the 10th, but no quit.
