You mean besides being faster of foot, faster hands, faster reflexes, excellent defense.... Yes, I totally can envision Chavez just digging to the body and Pea is just sitting there on the ropes taking it......

Pea dealt with JCC so handily that it takes an incredible leap of faith to make JCC the favourite at any time. If it was closer an argument could be made e.g Leonard-Hearns 1.

    The man in my avatar.

Not favored but Sugar Shane could pose problems but ultimately gets frustrated and packs it in. Mosley did that a lot when facing Forrest, Wright, Cotto, Mayweather, etc.

It would have been a different fight at 35. Unless you believe that 12lbs and 6 years don't make a difference.

Chavez was 5 or 6 years older at a weight he never was effective at.
My post was tongue and cheek but I think it would be an even matchup if Pea had to face the Chavez that tortured Rosario.

You didn't ask me. But personally I feel Duran would be all wrong for Whitaker. Here's why, though Whitaker fought some extremely talented and great pressure fighters in Chavez, Ramirez and Nelson . None, not one had the physicality of Duran. None, not one hit with the power Duran hit with. None not one was as defensively sound while attacking as Duran was.
Duran would push Whitaker, hold him, wrestle him into corners and punish him when he gets their. If prime Duran had the physicality to go up to Welter weight, and physically able to wear down fighters as gifted as Palomino and Leonard imagine what a natural lightweight must have felt being in the ring with him. Another thing some miss on Duran was his quickness. Especially when he was at lightweight. I know some look at the Viruet fight as some indication of the problems Duran had with real slick boxers... But Duran won that fight by Unanimous dec. And it wasn't close. I believe Duran would win a UD against Whitaker, or possibly a late stoppage if the fight is 15rds.

I thought Duran, but the way he stood against JCC, no running at all. Even employing some well-timed low-blows?o_O makes me think Duran wouldn't get away with the mauling he did to Ray against Pernell.

I like the pick of Armstrong, Too many punches nonstop. Same with Aaron Pryor. Alexis Arguello would be the 3 who could beat him during his prime.

Pea was much better than the 3 of them and Taylor was schooling him

Fair enough. I think they would both be more comfortable at that weight. Pernell Whittaker would be faster, more active and more mobile too. Chavez' power at 135 would be no joke and his combinations and body punching would have more impact on a smaller Whittaker. Definitely a closer contest, though I always felt Pernell was wrong for JCC.
