I think Kovalev lets Alvarez eat the jab over the stretch of 12 rounds, with some difficult moments in the mid rounds inbetween where Canelo has some succes countering and hurting Kova to the body.
Because I don't think this version of Kovalev gets Alvarez outta there, and won't dominate too many rounds, I expect another controversial decision in Alvarez' favor.

I still see it as a suicide for Canelo. If he gets hit by the jab and straight right hand of Kovalev like he was hit by GGG, it's simply game over for the mexican.

If you would built the easiest fighter that Kovalev can beat, it would be a smaller guy in the style of Canelo.

    Excellent video btw.

    Quality video as always.

Jab with KO power is one of rarest gifts in boxing. Was funny to see how Ward was panicking when Sergey was feinting his jab, ahaha. Btw, if that right hand had landed right on the Ward's chin (1:30 minute), it would have been a KO and who knows how Kovalev's career would have played out.

i see Canelo tasting Kovalev's power, getting frustrated by his jab and going into survival mode. When he feels safe, he gonna occassionaly throw his flurries to win rounds, with bought judges it wont be hard. Kovalev gonna beat him to a pulp doe, I see his team throwing towel in later rounds.

This will be the easiest championship fight of Canelo's career. Mark my words.

You think Kov is that shot huh? Guess you won't give much credit for the win if Canelo pulls it off eh?

You have to be a dumbass to believe Kova is at his best? Imo Kova can't take it anymore but he's still very dangerous fight because of the size difference and punching power, Canelo probably won't be fighting the best version of Kova but he should still be given credit for taking a risk like that, This fight reminds me a bit of Pacquiao vs DLH where the smaller faster fighter beats the bigger slower older fighter , it will be more competitive because Kova won't be weight drained like DLH was.

Kovalev's best (and probably only) chances are from the outside.

If this fight is on the inside or at close range then he doesn't have the defensive abilities due to his long arms which are easily to tangle up.

Let's note there was a catchweight between DelaHoya and Pacquiao. Delahoya had to fight 10 pounds below his current fighting weight at the time, and he was probably heavier between fights. Also Delahoya was not a legitimate top 3 anymore. The style of Delahoya is not the same as Kovalev, DLH did not possess the devastating jab power. Kovalev is from a russian/soviet style, long heavy jab with some tricks to it. The straight right hand will also be a big problem for Canelo. DLH was more of an inside fighter, he liked to close the distance and land a variety of punches, the left hook being his trademark I think. Kovalev works at distance, which is a bigger problem for smaller fighters.

Wasn't the fight scheduled for the 147 limit?

This is what makes this fight so intriguing. It can go a variety of ways. My personal take, Kovalev will utilize the jab and try to bust Alvarez up with it as long as he can do damage, then start following it up with the right hand. His best chances to win are to keep the fight on the outside.

Alverez obviously has to get inside and to do so, he’s going to take some serious fire coming in. If he can take the fire coming in, obviously Álvarez can beat him on the inside. I think he could beat him badly on the inside and get a stoppage in the late rounds of the fight if Kovalev is tired.

if the fight goes 12, I strongly think Alvarez gets the decision. Kovalev’s best chance is to beat him up and get the stoppage before 12 rounds.
