Sonny Liston vs 1991 Evander Holyfield

Holyfield always talked about how he was gonna box, then he’d get hit and start a brawl. Cops broke their heat tempered night sticks over Liston’s head and couldn’t drop him on the street. Liston in 8. ‘91 was the pre juiced non hgh Holyfield.

 

Having Manny Steward fight 2 Bowe helped him for sure. With a trainer like him. most definitely. Without him? A fight breaks out!

 

Agree. And I'll add although outstanding warrior Holy has gotten a bit overrated.

 

You honestly think Liston could get rid of prime Holyfield in 5? Words like impossible and terms like far fetched come to mind.

 

Once Holy gets tagged his gameplan likely gets thrown out the window and he wants to fight. That seals his fate with Sonny.

 

Prime Sonny Liston, 1958-1962, would be victorious over 1991 Evander The Real Deal Holyfield, by a unanimous decision. Liston did win a unanimous decision over Eddie Machen, on Sept 7 1960, in Seattle, Washington. Eddie did box with Sonny, but failed to do enough to secure the win, as Liston used his pole like left jab, bobbed and weaved, landing his combinations. Holyfield, a fighter with terrific skills did take far from prime George Foreman's hard ponderous blows for 12 rounds on April 19 1991, in Atlantic City, winning a unanimous decision to retain his belt. Liston would come forward, landing his combos, set up by that stiff Liston jab. Evander would also fire his fast combinations, at times to rock the Bear. This would be a very good fight.

 

This is a variable that sways me a little. I just can't see Sonny not getting aggravated by Holy's needs-Ritalin darting. In and out, in and out...Liston would have been aggravated, and he didn't do to good when opponents got to him psychologically.

That said, all SL needed was one shot....

 

Liston, probably by stoppage at some point. His jab would hold him in good stead when Holyfield boxed a bit and he'd win the shootout.

 

You honestly think Evander is going to box, and move avoiding Sonny? Holyfield ain't Jimmy Young, he'll trade just like he did with Bert Cooper and...….BAM! , this time he won't survive

 

I tend to think of that as a one off. He also took solid shots from Foreman, Tyson, Lewis, Moorer and Stewart and didn't go down. Bowe had to throw everything plus the kitchen sink at Holyfield in the first fight and finally he went down. In the third fight he was sick.

 

….and Sonny Liston is a farrr badder man than Bowe
