It's quite pathetic really. That they are so threatened by the P4P number 1s dominance that they are non stop actively desperately searching.

    It was Russell Jr
    Then Nicolas Walters
    Then Rigondeaux
    Then Gervonta Davis

Then it was Tefimo Lopez until Lopez looked terrible in his last fight

    Now its Devon Haney!

Just enjoy watching boxing without stressing yourself out hating on fighters!

Russell Jr? What do you mean. Loma was coming off getting his ass beat by Salido, why would there be a need for a "hope" to see someone beat Loma. Walters? You mean the guy who was shelved for a year and only beat career flyweights and was coming off a draw? Rigo? You mean the almost 40 year old who had not had a relevant fight for 5 years and jumped 2 whole weight classes, when he's tiny at 122 already?

Every fighter with hype, amateur career, knockout power, P4P ranked or top of their division, popularity or notoriety or haters has fans desperately searching for someone to beat them. Floyd Mayweather built his whole career of his fanatical haters, and made a billion dollars from it too.

Josh Taylor, Crawford, Thurman, Spence Jr, Charlo's, Thurman, GGG, Canelo, Anthony Joshua are just a few fighters that many fans, including on this site, are desperate to see take a loss or just simply face top competition. Just look at the excitement and pure delirious joy when Joshua lost to Ruiz Jr. That was wild.

Trust me, yes people are looking for a serious challenge to Loma, but Loma is far from being a unique target. He shares this in common with every other dominant (and sometimes not so dominant) fighters in history. Whenever someone looks unbeatable (except for when they face salido hehe just throwing that in here), fans and the even the general public want to see that fighter beaten or face something that they have never faced before so they can see the outcome.

A fighter of Loma's extensive amateur background and talent will always be expect to fight the best available. Fighting guys like Crolla does absolutely nothing for him. Fans want to see Loma take on the best fighters only, especially at this stage of his career.

I wouldn't take fans looking for someone to beat Loma personally and neither would Loma. As in every case before him (Loma), it just shows that he is a special fighter and people want to see extraordinary things happen, a great challenge to match a great fighter. Legacy defining fights only.

And yes, I want to see Loma fight Gervonta Davis, Devin Haney, Teofimo Lopez, Richard Commey and whoever else out there who can give him a serious fight. That is how you build an ATG resume. Can Loma do it? To be honest, I expect him too. He is a special fighter.

This part is true. Lomachenko was "ducking" Teofimo Lopez and now, suddenly, when Loma is going to fight the winner of Commey vs. Lopez that's not good enough, and "he's ducking Haney!".

At the same time, after that ridiculous move by the WBC (their franchise BS) if Loma moves down or even retires without fighting Haney, that will hurt his legacy, his claim on undisputed lightweight supremacy will be tarnished.

I really enjoy watching Loma box, and have him as No1.

But some of the wank over him is ridiculous and over the top.

They are now looking for Alexis Arguello to beat him in forum as well.

    The same goes for Floyd
    The same goes for Pac
    The same goes for Crawford
    The same goes for Canelo
    The same goes for Golovkin
    The same goes for Gonzalez
    The same goes for Ward
The same goes for ........... [insert your favorite P4P level boxer]

There's no reason to hope for boxers to lose or to hate them because they have a couple of rabid fans, because all of them do, and then there's not much left to enjoy about them.

So you don't think threads like Loma vs Duran, Sanchez, Arguello and Loma vs SUGAR RAY ROBINSON, of all people, are pure wank?

People are actually picking him to win these!

I'm not hoping for him to lose. I'm not some pathetic fanboy. He's probably my current favourite, alongside Inoue and Ioka. But these fools overhyping Loma in an all time sense can be a put off.

I do agree with your overall point though.

Did you actually have a response for that? Since it was obvious you haven't watched Arguello's career.

I do agree people shouldn't keep matching Loma with ATGs on the general forum, though.

    Yes!
But like I said, that goes for every single one of the others as well. There have been a lot of Floyd and Pac threads around here going back a decade of what these supermen we supposed to be capable of.
Yes, ridiculous, but like I said, the same happens with most elite boxers.
That's the right spirit. It's just nonsense to single out one boxer and ignore it happens with all of the big name ones. You can't fault a boxer for that, not even when they actively promote that behavior like Floyd with his TBE thing and all. They know some fans are susceptible for that, and abuse that for financial gains.

I think these types of posts with the past greats vs current should stay in the classic, in all honesty.

I see your point Ellerbe but I'd say a couple of things about it. Firstly, he lost to Salido but 'getting his ass beat' ain't what happened. It was still a close fight and as ballsy a move as you'll get for a second pro outing. But ultimately, people still picked GRJ to win. People picked Walters to win. People - for some reason - picked Rigo to win. I think that's what the OP is getting at as a lot of these - especially the Rigo one - are picked more with the HOPE than the EXPECTATION. It's the same as when people would pick against Floyd all the time.
