I just don't get it, Canelo in grave danger for his health and well being, It posters and media like you lot, I am blaming 99% of members here, saying Canelo going to do this and do that Canelo isn't going to do Nothing he's going to be over powered and beat up. I feel sad for canelo why do this to him?.. Then this post will get forgotten after fight mark these words !!!
Why is Canelo doing this? Because Kovalev is shot to bits. He was almost stopped by a basic ***** novice in his last fight. In a fight in which he was superior in every way - he was still almost stopped. If Canelo had him in that position he would have forced the referee to jump in and stop him. His weakness to the body is something that is glaring. It will be something that Canelo will target mercilessly. Kovalev also has a poor lifestyle and is old now. Father time waits for no one. Canelo is a big favourite in this fight for me despite the size difference
You'd be weak to the body also if you had Andre Ward bombarding your testicles all fight long. Referee Tony Weekes just ignored Kov's complaints & gave Ward carte blanche to do as he wished
You do realize that Anthony Yarde is basically a boiled down Cruiserweight right? And it's a proven fact that he hits harder than Callum Smith, who hits harder than David Lemieux, who hits harder than Golovkin, who hits harder than Canelo. That's like saying Dmitry Bivol is a bum ripe for the picking because he almost got knocked out by Joe Smith Jr. at the end of a round. It means nothing, other than a really big puncher landed a really good punch, it happens. You say Canelo will target the body mercilessly, how does he effectively and continually get past the jab to do that? And you do know that Kovalev is far more disciplined in and out of the ring and has been following the game plan of Buddy McGirt to the letter now right? At the very least, you should at least consider these factors.
Your first paragraph is intentionally comical. Since power is subjective and a lot depends on your ability to utilise it. Kovalev hasn’t passed the eye test since the first Alvarez fight. You shouldn’t be so close to defeat against a crude slugger with very little boxing skill. Yarde was shockingly inferior in that fight as we expected and a prime Kovalev would have cleaned him out in less than 6 rounds without any scares. No one knows what will happen in this fight but what we do know is that Kovalev is a long way off being prime. He will struggle against a highly skilled boxer like Canelo. Regardless of holding natural size advantage and having a good jab. Canelo is clearly extremely confidence that he will win this otherwise he wouldn’t be taking this fight.
Canelo should win easily. Canelo is basically a LHW on fight night anyways. Also part of moving up and why it’s so difficult IMO is due to different levels of the divisions. For example FW, LW, WW, MW are usually the most stacked. So a LW going to WW is usually very difficult because you’re heading into the most stacked division, thus the keel of opponents is going up as well as weight. Similar with WW to MW and BW to FW. Now Kovalev did arguably beat award which means he’s a top level fighter as Ward is possibly/probably better than Canelo p4p. That said, kovalev looks shot and yarde is not a high level guy, doesn’t look it, so if Kova going life and death with him, Canelo will just be 2 levels above that. Don’t think the weight will be much of an issue. Canelo has good defence and much faster.
Kovalev shot to bits? I guess u haven't seen the knee braces that Canelo's been wearing his last 3 fights LOL.... what about all of the knee surgeries he had??... remember his broken hand after liam smith? he's also known to have a bad ankle. How do u know he will hold up against Kovalev? You are acting like Canelo has never been in wars that havent taken tolls on his body. did u miss the GGG fights? he went a hard 12 with Jacobs.
No, it's not. Yarde and Smith have shared two opponents, Smith went the distance with one and stopped the other in six, Yarde literally massacred them. The beatdowns were unpleasant and uncomfortable to watch. When a massive Light Heavyweight who happens to be a KO artist lands a bomb, it's going to hurt. The crude slugger threw his hands in the air, sold out and went balls to the walls, and he paid for it dearly the next round. It wasn't because somehow he outboxed Kovalev in that round. Actually he passed the eye test beautifully, in the second Alvarez match. I don't care how confident he is, that's irrelevant. There's a reason why there's more than a handful of "When Cocky Fighters Get Destroyed" videos are on Youtube. Broner was supremely confident ahead of Maidana as well.
Not at this level, way to much money involved for mismatches, Canelo's in with a shout with current Kov or Canelo and team wouldn't take it.
I keep thinking there's a reason that Canelo is hugely favoured. He's got youth, skills and speed, the momentum, a great team, he's the moneyman and he's the guy who gets the favoured cards all the time. Then I think of Kovalev at his finest, and I think of the grit that he showed against Yarde, and the fact that he's really finding an indian summer in his career. I read your posts making his case for him, and the possibility that the rift with Oscar might mean that the brown envelope wasn't slipped this time. Then I don't know what to think. Except that this is going to be an awesome fight!
Yarde had him in trouble but he schooled for him for the rest of the fight. Yeah, Kova is past prime but none of us would be screaming mismatch if he fought Bivol or Beterbiev next instead of Canelo. We're just being cynical; I was the same when the fight was first announced
I don't know which thread it was, but it had a vid of kovs ko's from when he was prime, Cleverley period, when he was hungry, god he was savage, Ward, Canelo wouldn't have touched him with a barge pole, even when he was calling out Stevenson you could see he wasn't the same and that's years ago. Canelo is in with a chance with timing imo
Every time Canelo picks a opponent his team have been studying him before and are sure they can beat him, if he wanted to really challenge himself Canelo would of picked an “in prime” opponent, not one that’s past his prime. I hope Kovalev wins but this is the right time to fight Kovalev.
Everything Canelo and GBP do is calculated, they must see something they can exploit in Kovalev but more than likely Canelo will be on his bike for 12 rounds winning 3 rounds max and getting a 118-110 UD
I think it's basically about: – Kovalev is past his prime and even when in his prime Sergey always had stamina/weight issues; – some people think that Kovalev "doesn't like it to the body" (allegedly because of his bad habits outside the ring); – Kovalev doesn't (can't) fight on the inside and is quite bad and unsure at clinching; – Canelo is an excellent boxer/fighter with a strong chin, a very good team behind him, the judges willing to give him a victory in a close fight and a favorable referee in the ring.
