What are some signs that you are at bad or mediocre boxing gym ?

If it's clean, get out.

 

Allows overuse of electronics.

Don't listen to coach(es) (obvious)

No drills. Heavy 'boxercise'.

There's more, but even a noob could probably tell after a few sessions.

 

Poor hygiene practices, too much unsupervised, rough sparring going on... boxing trainers smiling broadly when two people are hurting each other.

 

Actually those are signs of a real boxing gym in the more traditional mold that actually forges competitors who regard the sport as something to be taken seriously, as opposed to all the state of the art white collar fitness clubs that have popped up in most cities to cater to almost exclusively the pumpkin spice demographic (who just want to post to Instagram to show off to all their friends, "look I 'box', teehee!").

Catch weight sparring happens to often

 

If you haven't been to a boxing gym that hasn't got a ring soaked in the blood of previous guests,with the stench of sweat, then I'm guessing you've probably only been involved in one of those fancy boxfit classes in shiny super clean studio rooms where the teacher is standing in front of the class telling everyone to do body weight exercises in union.

That's not boxing, that's posing.

 

There should be cleaning up at the end of the day and we shouldnt be sharing gloves all the time

can end up with atopic dermatitis and staph infections

 

When you complain that the changing room is a bit cramped and the trainer tells you " yeah but at least you can get some privacy by sliding the latch from " vacant" to "engaged".......

If you hear the unnecessary and over used phrase “lions in camp”

 

When you see Floyd Mayweather in it.
