So Canleo showed greatness when he had to, but at the same time showed he's meat vs a non shot light heavy?

Canelo threw less and less to the body as the fight went on. I thought it was due to Kovalev's straight punches starting to get to him b/c Canelo's eyes are swollen. It could have also been that Canelo felt he was doing more damage upstairs.
Either way, a weird fight. Nill all draw most of the way.
Initially I thought the ref stopped it prematurely but Kova's reaction suggests the ref made the right call. The last thing we want is another death or another Adonis Stevenson.

I'd say in hindsight that it was no cherry pick, since Canelo lost the overwhelming majority of completed rounds very clearly. If another eight minutes had ticked by without him finding that specific two-piece, he would have been in danger of losing a decision (provided non-corrupt judging). If that was truly a cherry pick and he's leagues above Kovalev and could have really ended it anytime he wanted to, he let it drag quite late (making himself look bad in the process) and cut it awfully close - for what? How does that benefit him?

You guys who watched it & gave scores...couldn't imagine how this thread reads, LOL!

Sounds like an ok fight, where Kov could do more...than to read KO. So Andre Ward got it right. He said Canelo was fighting Kovalev, not the Krusher.

Did Kovalev even throw one punch with bad intentions on it?

First Kovalev fight where he deliberately held back power in all his punches.

Frankly, he should retire otherwise he will keep getting knocked out.

Personally, I thought the efforts from both guys reflected smart strategies from each. Kovalev was conserving energy and not over committing where he'd be vulnerable to counters. Canelo was minimizing any would be incoming damage while tiring Kovalev out. They both fought smart. Canelo turned up the heat right when he needed to.

    Kovalev doesn’t look right here

He doesn’t look at all upset at being knocked out.

He is laughing and finds it funny

    His attitude sucks here

Seems like he made them irrelevant.

You could just accept that he won decisively.

I’ll say this: apart from the cards on this thread being all over the place, they also were on social media from a ton of boxing writers that I follow. Probably the majority — but nowhere near all and not an overwhelming majority — had Kov up but some had Canelo ahead. So I don’t think there’s any real consensus that either man was winning or losing by a large margin.

Of course if it’s not in line with what you think, well, obviously it’s shady right?

He tried to do Canelo just like the other Álvarez. It didn’t work and you’re pathetic.

Now go find some media scorecards.

    Fight was not a fix

Kovalev was way up on any sane scorecard but it doesn’t matter he was knocked out. That is boxing. Will be interesting to see the judges scorecards though. Won’t be shocked if Canelo was up on all 3 which would be the usual farce.
