ive questioned his heart before and ive straight up called him soft, knowing full well i was risking attack from those here quick to label me a hater. im a very good judge of character.
Just watched his interview in russian, he looked very happy and didnt say a single honest word, just a load of bull****, that **** happens, he gonna come back and ****. He is not a true champ, cant imagine Hagler being bought and content for losing his title to a smaller fighter, who is despised by many fans and pros.
Maybe you're not wrong. There's a video I didn't want to post in other topic when there was a discussion on Golovkin sparring Kovalev: This content is protected
Wow! Hopkins was 36 when he fought his masterpiece against Trinidad. Hopkins closed the show with a huge right hand. Are you telling me that version of Hopkins (or one a year or two older) would have done worse against Canelo than Kovalev?
this is in the context of what champions are made of, kovalev is no less brave than most of us, but these are the best in the world, thats a different standard.
Now i start to believe those rumors. Kovalev looked often like a typical school bully who surrenders after getting hit from his "victim". Kovalev lacked mental strengh too, i still think he checked out in second Ward fight.
Have you read the Kovalev's book? It's not a masterpiece but it's entertaining and it definitely helps to understand Sergey better. Because you were right -- he has a mind of a gopnick. But, at the same time, he's more than that. It's difficult to explain. Kovalev has a complicated personality.
i had picked him to win that fight. i said afterwards that he folded under wards roughhousing. but, i dont believe he thought folding like that at the end, was going to get the fight stopped. he thought ward was going to get a point taken off. ward had hit him low, but kova got soft when time to answer. for a guy making his name as the krusher he should have been a little more barrera.
No, i didnt even know he wrote a book, gonna read it. Bandeedo was right about him being a simple man. When you say that he is complicated, you probably mean that he got some negative quirks that affects him.
I can imagine what he wrote in his book minemax. Probably difficult youth in post soviet chaotic Russia, maybe growing without father, but many young males had same story in 90th Russia. Golovkin lost his brother under strange circumstances. I can remember those times, criminality was huge, mobs were more powerful than police, police were mostly criminals too. You could buy everything, education like Vitaly Klitchko, he can barely speak but got Dr. title.
He gassed out. You could argue that Ward's body and nut punches didn't help, but Kovalev simply doesn't have good stamina. When he was younger his youth made up for it but now that he's old, he can't sustain the pace.
Gassing from not throwing a single power punch against fighter who throws 3 punches a round? Was he drunk, poisoned and got asthma at the same time? But yeah, he looked tired, anyway for me and many other fans it didnt look that he wants to win.
He's simply old, and came off of a tough fight. Weight draining also makes it hard for a fighter to have energy. Watch fights where one fighter is drained and the other is not. The drained fighter can at best fight in spurts and then needs to rest for his body to recover. Canelo at 154 was exactly that fighter. He looked great for a minute and then had to gasp like a fish on the ropes for the rest of the round. I like Kovalev and I think he has great natural ability, but the truth is that I think his party lifestyle outside of the ring ruined his health as a fighter. I know that he only has himself to blame for that but it doesn't mean he doesnt have heart.
