Tonight's events really put Yarde and Tunde into context for me.

Now I understand styles make fights, and Canelo is a great fighter but lets be honest, Yarde is a ****ing hulking behemoth compared to canelo, he is WAAAAAY bigger yet couldn't get the job done vs a guy who got iced cold by a middleweight.

A natural middle weight who just so happens to be a world class boxer
Plenty others have failed to beat
    Kova at that weight too
Does this apply to them too?
    Nonsense thread

Size is important in boxing. Levels are too.

So you just watched Canelo knockout Kovalev and your first thought is 'I need to make a thread so I can hate in Yarde'

Canelo is an elite fighter. I do however find it strange that someone who started out as a welter is now knocking out top fighters at Light Heavy!

It also brings the question of how powerful actually is Yarde. He’s only knocked out second rate opposition. He had Kovalev in trouble for a moment but couldn’t put him away. He really needs to fight top 20 fighters from now on and we will establish whether his power is legit or not.

It was the approach as well. Canelo hunted him down and sat behind the defence until he decided when to go and even then, he only just stepped on the gas a little bit more. Even when the crowd were booing when he disengaged and kept away from Kov's jab, he kept his cool. 47.9% power punches landed and an awesome 38% total punches landed. Kovalev career best jabs thrown 577, but only 11% landed. Kovalev picked Yarde off all night with the jab but Canelo nullified him totally. I like Yarde but he's got a fair amount of ground to make up.

It's all that Mexican meat mate !! Yarde was game v Kovalev but not much else. Would like to see Yarde v Callum Johnson. It would be bombs away, but cant see it happening. Be very interested to see the level of Yardes next opponent. I think it will be someone who is a bit of a name, but old and someone who is not really a light heavyweight. Try and get him a name of his record.

Thought Canelo fought such an intelligent fight. I had him well behind on the cards but there was the feeling that although he was losing the battle, he was winning the war. Took him to deep waters and drowned him.

Kovalev has been a brilliant champion and he did amazingly well winning his title back, but he’s been shot for some time. Yarde was never going to take him out because of his well highlighted poor CV leading up to it. There was way too many question marks, and awful management from Tunde. That said, he made some serious money from that approach so fair play to him.

I suspect it will be more of the same as long as Tunde is involved.

Obviously major question marks over drugs hang over Alvarez, but the reference to Mayweather dictating weight terms for their fight mentioned on the commentary last night was a reasonable one. Yes he started at welter but he's not been at that weight since he was a teenager.

Yeah Canelo used Kovalevs jab against him last night. It was very impressive to watch.

I saw the fight completely different to alot of people in seems. I watched today with some foreign coms and I thought Canelo was brilliant. He used Kovalevs jab as his own range finder and landed the bigger punches in pretty much every round apart from the first. Top class performance by Canelo.

I can see the logic in your scoring. I kept giving rounds to Kovalev for his work rate behind his jab.

You mean an elite SMW on roids is more impressive than Yarde?
    Yeah what a shocker.
